Hey guys sorry for raiding the forum.bit bored u know last days at work before xmass just cant be bothered workin so as the rest of the boys and gals here.

just though to share this mod that i did. will get gav to load up a video of the thing working. but i have to convert it to mpeg or wma first as its 3gp.

hopefully pictures will be enough what was done. some pics taken from the spare air con box as it was easier to picture than when installed (just cant see it from other stuff)

few good hours working on it but now i can ditch those rusty ugly air con control's and have a digital soft touch climate control and i think i shaved at least 1kg from ditching the original stuff out and installing the electronic stuff.

r32 climate control has few cool features   if u think they are.

if u hold the cold button for few seconds the display shows "FC" and the whole thing readjust to give max cooling U can interpert the "FC" few ways but i think the Japs would have made it to stand for FULL COLD or I like it F@#%NG COLD  8)  same thing happens when on max heat and hold the heat button down for few seconds than appears "FH"

so anyone with r32 out there try it out. i found this by accident by moving the temp setting and talking on mobile.held the button too long and than the fan started screaming full blast. 8)  things happen when u least expected.

looking back its quite easy to do all u need is r32 complete a/c unit to raid

though there are some neat trick done as keen eyes will notice what has been done to the fresh and recycle flap.

nup, none of my mates have an r32 :(

sure looks interesting, i now know what i'd like to do at some stage :D (currently i can;t blow cold air on the windscreen, isn't really an issue, but for some reason i wanted to the other day lol) did this come with ur halfcut or they generally dont give you the dash, and hence these bits?

Posted

yeah it came with the deal with half cut. the guy was desperate to sell so it was on my conditions.

pretty much i took everything of it and what i didnt want i returned back (well only thing left was front end of the chasis from the donor r32 i removed everything including the dash ,clips, bolts, screw even choped brake lines  all i returned was the subframe and rack (sometimes i though should have kept the rack too)

lot of if has migrated to the 260z pretty much its r32 runing gear in a 260z shell. i even used the ignition lock and switch.reliability issues with z ones.

what i wanted is modern car inside with 70s styling on the outside. and hopefully to be bit faster than my current daily driver s14a 200sx.

which also has jdm climate controll fitted. took me over a week to wire that puppy. close to 150 wires to be rewired and sensors put in. thank god for the service manual.

i can replicate the kit mechanical bits to fit which most part would be exchangable wthout removal of the dash or the a/c unit. but u will need the head unit and complete a/c box of r32 with the wiring that suit.

also probably need the compressor from r32 to use the econ feature. as it has 3 wires on the compressor compared only 1 on the 260. so if adapting to the original wiring may be bit of a headache but nothing is impossible.

hope u good friends with an electronics buff otherwise big $$$.

so you know have the full R32 a/c installed in your 260!???

People would kill for that set up in their cars during summer! i installed old a/c from a donor 260 but never got it working quite right, gotta try again some time. Earger to see the dash when all neatly fitted.

Sounds like you know your way around these cars both mechanically and the electronic side too, good work!

yep complete r32 a/c. well not exactly i adapted all the electronics from r32 a/c to 260z a/c box. the r32 a/c box was too big. so most of the cabin hardware is still s30 but the electric motors now operate the flaps and valves. instead of the vacum diaphrams and leavers.

though not sure what the condensor came from but i had it floating around so made use out of it.

as for dash yeah im also considering removing the rectangular center vent and installing 3x round ones same one as the one on each side than have the a/c  controll and than a strip of warning and indication lights  than maybe touchcreen if it fits. if not just a normal cd player. and than two other guages.  before the gear shift. hopefully all fits.

EDIT:

Pic added and some more details.

The round vents are from 1980's Mercedes Benz W123 Series

Modified 260z center vent garnish.
