i currently own a 1976 datsun 260z 2+2 and im buying some wheels

watanabe style 17x9.5 all round with the appropriate sticky rubber

seeing as though im only 15 and i dont have that much driving experience i was wondering if i should invest in a powersteering rack due the wheels size or will the stock power steering be ok?

any help will be greatly appreciated. cheers.

personaly i wouldnt, you will get use to it like i did. i got my 260z when i was 16 and it had 8.5 inch rims on the front running r14/50/235 it was a bit of a struggle to start with but you get use to it fast.

Just giving you a heads up since your getting 17x9.5

Be very careful with your tire profiles. I've currently got 16x8.5 with 225/50 at the fronts and need to get scrubbing on the front spoiler rectified.

i think i might go staggered with 9inch up front and 9.5 at the rear but ive heard some nasty stories about understeer from staggered fitments.

could anyone recomend some tyre measurements that could help me out

btw i have flares waiting to be put on so width isnt really an issue

You shouldn't experiance any understeer from only .5 difference from front to back, 1" total difference in tire width, if you want to look at it per axle.

One of the vehicles I drive has at least 2 feet of difference in tire tread from front axle to rear axle and experiance no understeer.

ok thanks six_shooter

once its road worthy and registered ill take it down to my suspension place and get them to fit some nice  heavy duty strut braces

Another option is to get adjustable strut tops like the kmac ones where you can adjust camber and castor, or get adjustable tension rods for castor adjustment only.

You can lighten the steering a bit by decreasing the castor to offset the fat tyres a bit, but the trade off is the steering wheel will not self centre as well and you might notice the car will need more steering imput on a straight road.

Oh yeah i should also mention i have 9" front and 9.5" rear Rota RB's on my 240 and you will have to be pushin pretty hard on the street to experience understeer with rubber that fat!

I would be taking it to a track day to explore those limits. Replace all the bushes including the steering rack mount bushes and steering coupling bush while you're at it, it will make a nice difference.
