R31 Front Struts - Differences between turbo and non-turbo

Does anyone know if it's easy to obtain R31 turbo front struts? I'm not that familiar with the different skyline models but I have read that the R31 front struts will allow for later brake kits like R32 calipers to bolt right up without the need for fabrication.

 

This was being done to a 240z, not sure if it makes a difference with the 260z I imagine not.

 

I'm not sure if there are differences between R31 turbo and non turbo struts but i'm guessing there is since the article I read explicitly mentioned they were turbo front struts.

 

I also read in the article that the lower steering nuckles will need to be replaced since the stock ones won't work with the R31 struts, however since I'd be looking at fitting coil-overs and shortening the struts I'd want an integrated bump stop knuckle anyway so it's not really a problem.

 

I guess the swap just allows you to have nice clean bolt up, upgraded brakes.

R31 turbo (import) struts are the same as those used on locally built R31 GTS1 and GTS3 spec cars (ie built by Nissan SVD), but local cars also had Bilstein suspension.

 

To answer your questions:

 

1. they're hard to find

2. turbo struts have 100mm caliper mounts so can take R32, etc calipers, but non-turbo have 90mm.

3. steering knuckles aren't the same as Z type.

 

Since the R31 turbo struts are a bit in the rare side, some have also tried Z31 turbo struts (in R31's, that is), but I don't know details.
