Bruce Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 I am about to fit a new seat and a four point harness in my car (without a rollcage initially). Just wondering if anybody else has fitted a harness? If so where have you attached the rear mounting points? cheers Bruce Quote
Zeddophile Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 I think you will have to fit at least a rollover hoop to fit your harness, as there are very specific requirements for the angles the belts need to be at (something to do with breaking the back of the seat in a crash?), and from memory the rear mounting points need to be up quite a bit higher than the strut towers. Since you'll be scrutineered at Sandown, you'll want it to be right, and I can't remember whether it is vicroads or cams who require specific placement of harnesses, but I have a feeling it was cams. PZG302 Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Get onto the harness sites, SAbelt and Willans, they will have how to mount them up properly. For a sprint event you would be better off with your standard belts until you gat a cage to properly mount a harness, and then spend the extra on a 3" harness and try to get at least a 5 point harness. The 4 point will still allow you to submarine in a big hit. Quote
Bruce Posted October 11, 2006 Author Posted October 11, 2006 unfortunatley my standard belts are RS. The CAMS manual has some good info on the angles etc required, I more concerned about finding a good mounting point. Unfortunately I am not sure how far down the track I will be putting a cage in and I am really keen to get out on the track sooner rather than later, thus the question. There was a z at the last event which had the harness attched to the floor between the rear strut towers.I might sus that out perhaps. I might follow your thinking with the 5 point harness, It is a good point you make. cheers Bruce Quote
620Z Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I was also going to suggest mounting it to the floor. Mine is currently fixed to a metal bracket that is bolted to the topt rear strut tower. something can easily be welded up to fit there. Not sure if it is legal but I have passed plenty of scruteneering and done many sprints with it fitted here. I have an 8 point roll cage in my car but never got around to welding a mounting bracket to it. I guess I should add it to the list. State Racing would be a different kettle of fish. Quote
Bruce Posted October 29, 2006 Author Posted October 29, 2006 At this stage I am not going to do any state racing, just club sprints. Between now and the start of the next years events I'll get a cage put in with a harness bar, that way I don't have to worry about temporarily engineering something up and having to worry about whether the scrutineer on the day will pass it. cheers Bruce Quote
PZG302 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 My cage has a bar going across between the rear strut towers. I mount the shoulder harness straps to that by looping them around the bar. One more tip, when using bolts, get high tensile bolts for the extra strength. Quote
Bruce Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 i'm getting my cage done tomorrow by Brown Davis, so I should have it sorted. Thanks for the advice guys cheers Bruce Quote
