K&N Air filter

Now that I've finished adding the 280z air filter box to my EFI 260z, have found the car feels like it can't breathe any more, noticed more at low revs.

I thought maybe a better flowing filter like a K&N or lukey.

Went to repco yesterday and the K&N was listed as $160

I was expecting to pay a premium but that just seemed a bit ludicrous.

It's a common size filter which is used in heaps of models like the 300zx.

Anyone know if this price is overinflated or could recommend another option?

K&N'S arn't cheap. Cost me $319.98 for two to suit 2"SU's and had to wait 3 months to get them from US of A. Guess if want the best you have to pay. :-\

I run K & N in the 1000rr, MX5 and the tripple webber's when I had the 240z..

 

They cost heaps buy last for ...I don't know....Forever !!!!

 

K&N's filter are will worth the money, I even run the oil filter's on all as well.

Fair enough if that's what they cost it's what they cost.

Is there a noticeable difference to performance compared to stock cheapo?

You will notice the difference when it rains. K&N's don't fill up with water and flood the engine. Use the K&N oil and it will repell the water that sprays up in the engine bay during wet weather. Had to rescue my daughter in her Sunny {Hot} once because I put a cheepie on top of the Webber and after fitting a K&N had no more late night calls on rainy nights.

 

PS. The Sunny was hot. My daughter is the most beautiful thing that walks this planet.

Repco are shit.  I can't stand them.

 

I got my K&N's for $180 the pair (Part No. E-3221) and also got the service kit (which from memory was around $30).  The difference from these and using disposables is noticeable. You might be paying a little more for them but they last a lot longer and look that bit nicer too.

 

There are a few different filter models to use.  I went for the thinnest.

I got a 50,000 mile 1 year warranty on them, but unlikely needed cos the packaging says it lasts 1,000,000 miles?  And I believe they offer the million mile warranty in the US.

I don't mean to burst ur buble but im pretty sure the oiled type foules the air flow meter. I read that the Z uses a vane type which can be damaged by oil getting into it and fouling the potentiometer. But i could be wrong. A solution thats often used is to box the filter in so it doesnt get wet.

I had the pod fitted previous and the oil didn't seem to cause any dramas, touch wood.
