today i was driving my z31 and the auto decided to start playing up. I wont change up in gears till it hits around 4000rpm and the kick down is rather radical. the overdrive wont work either. I have checked the vacuum line and it still seams to be attached.

Does any one have any clues to what might be the problem?

It sound like a vacuum issue but maybe take off the Modulator and clean. There's a Small Grub Screw in the modulator on the pipe where the vacuum plugs in on the earlier 240/260 Transmissions that effect when the changes happen. Simple item with a diagphragm that may be busted.

today the problem seems to haved fixed its self. however i am sure it will come back so i think it is time to start gathering the parts to convert it to manual

I have a Z32 5 speed sitting here (attached to a VG30det from a Cima/Laurel/Leopard), should bolt straight on. Shipping from canberra to SA will be a killer though.

Im looking to be rid of it before I get temptd to put it in my R30 skyline....

I will keep that in mind. At the momnt i am earning $200 a week sickness benefits because some clown knocked me off my motorbike.

I hope to go back to work in june. I will contact you if i cant find anything closer. I am hoping to find a cheep z31 complete car with the manual in it so i have every thing all at once. then i can just swap it all over and be done with it

Vacuum modulator may be leaking. Is your engine blowing blue smoke. Sometimes when they're really bad thay let trans fluid go up the vacuum tube into the inlet manifold.
