T.A.P Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Ive just installed the Mongoose M80AM but experiencing a little set back. Everything works and Ive got the Ignition and starter hooked up to two immobilise points, but the Starter doesnot turnover, I tried with a separate relay and it seems that although the relay bridges the connection once receives power it disconnects when I try to crank. Does this mean I need a higher current load relay? PS: Starter was connected to my old alarm system and worked fine. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 7, 2010 Moderators Posted April 7, 2010 Sounds like where the relay is getting power from to stay energised to supply power to the solenoid is losing power when cranking. Check where you are getting power from and make sure it has it while cranking. Use a test light to confirm. This is similar when I installed the Wolf ECU in my zed; I had to find a source of power that is there when ignition is on even under cranking. Not all electrical points are alive under crank. Things like wipers, radio etc do not get power while the engine is cranking so all power is "diverted" to the starter. Exceptions are coil, fuel pump etc.. Quote
T.A.P Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 Thanks Dimitri, thats exactly what happened, I thought since the alarm got its power directly from the batt it should have enough power for the relays, guess not. I ended up wiring another relay hooking the batt, the ignition cranking position and the alarm to give it a little more juice while cranking and it worked. Cheers Thach Quote
