xa1973 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Need a bit more detail... What prep did you do and what did you paint it with.... Quote
Sirpent Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Sounds like enamel, what did you paint it in? Quote
herrods Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 - sanded back with 1200 grit - rubbed back with steel wool - 2 coats etch primer - 3 coats hi-temp charcoal aluminium - 3 coats gloss clear I assume its enamel, it came from a spray can... but man is it the rolls royce of spray cans. Quote
nizm0zed Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 shoulda used the Bentley of spraycans, those rolls royces are just wannabe copies. but anyway, back on topic. What brand? VHT Engine enamel? Reason i ask is that a mate just painted the rocker cover of his Evo in that, and had the same problem you are describing. He even baked it in the oven, much to his partners 'choice' words on the matter. 3 days later and it was still tacky. He painted over it with clear, and it seemed to help, but a few days after the base colour started seeping through. Once he started sanding it back, he hit the colour and it was still tacky. As far as we could tell, it was a bad batch of paint. I have come across quite a few bad batches of paint from VHT. Quote
herrods Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 not VHT. I dont know the brand but it wasnt VHT. I also got a dud and have steered clear ever since. The paint is not tacky like,,,, not 100% dry sort of feeling its a bit different, like wow that is so clean my finger cant move smoothly over it. i figured a really light sand would do the trick, but then again i dont want to ruin my rolls royce spray job!
