I've got the JTR manual and was wondering what people may have done for things like throttle cable, gearboxes, tailshafts, speedo cables and am having trouble getting the chev eng mounts? So if you have it, please sent the info my way. Thanks Pete

pete, good move.

ive got some pics posted on thezgarage of my s/block, i didnt install but i have a very good idea what was done.

-283cu with 4bbl holley, th350 auto.

home made eng mounts (looks like but work) large block of rubber with 2 bolts through it

tailshaft mod (i think, but i cant tell where, i thnk it has just had the th350 yoke put on a zed shaft and thats it but like i said not 100%)

the throttle cable was just a small trick converting linkage to cable, just used the firewall linkage with a bit of shaft that is clamped to the cable inner and the cable sheath is perched on the firewall also on a separate 90deg bracket i made.

speedo cable looks stock! (believe it or not)maybe a new screw cup on trans side. original Zed trans shifter linkage attaches to the th350 small bend in the flat bar to clear the tunnel.

i would recommend suspending the v8 in the enginebay with trans and try it as far back as possible.

chock it in a good place(from beneath with jack and a block of wood), check bonnet clearance, tunnel clearance and engine mount locations/diff (mines sits the chev mounts on the bog stock perches for the 240z)

any more info just ask, i have some pics if you would like them posted..

try the castelmaine rod shop, they have tons of engine mounting kits as well as bellhousings to connect to different transmissions....

...check out this page, it lists a chev to 260z kit....EM82...

...they also have a RB30 kit

G'day Pete,

I have a chev in my Zed in Melbourne with extensive mods to it.

I still have the old engine mounts which simply bolt the chev connecting to the original Zed engine mounts. If you want you can have them for $250-. Nothing special but all set up ready to go with the engine moved back around 5". A massive difference to it's handling with it back so far. I have since mad up some different ones to allow more space for the extractors.

Rear end is twin turbo 300ZX half shafts to handle the power. Also a R200LSD.

The gear box is a Tremic which handles 700HP. But prior to this I have a Commodore T5 which wasn't bad but wouldn't handle my current power. The Tramic box is huge and weighs a ton so you need to enlarge the tunnel to accomodate it.

It's a big and expensive job but if you want to do it properly but worth it if you like a fast car. Good luck.

Yeah thanks for that, am thinking of putting in a supra 5 speed with the JTR eng mounts and wiil do the cv shaft conversion as well.

also going to section the struts for adjustable coilovers but no sure where i'm getting the parts from, I have a few ideas.

Also thinking about the toyota/280zx front/back brake conversion.

Are you running the standard tailshaft/diff flange?

I guess it just depends on how much horse power you will have but I presume the Supra box should handle a mild V8.

As for the tail shaft/diff flange I can't help you there. Not sure what was used on my car.

Coil overs are the go. Gives you more flxibility on the suspension and allows for wider wheels. But be careful with the shockers if you lover the car by a few inches as they will bottom out unless you modify the spacing on them as well or get shorter ones.

There are plenty different brake combo's you can go for.

Cheers

not sure if i am going to go for a warm 350sb or 400sb chev, have got a few mates that have had supra boxes behind hot 350sb chevs and have had no issues, plus they had much heavier cars.

gidday nicedat.

I have a 350 chev in my zed behind a supra box.

good combo for mild to warm 350 chev engines.

Where in melbourne are you?

If you want to have a look at mine im in langwarrin if thats not too far for you.

Thanks.

I am in Melbourne as well. Langwarren is a bit of a drive. But if you end up going to a NDSOC event like the concourse coming up 3/12/06 or next years Nationals then I am sure we will bump into each other. It's always great to check out what other people have done. Especially on the V8 Zeds. There aint that many of them around. Cheers

Yeah, I actually live in Wangaratta but may be coming down to Melb next weekend. Would love to check it out get some ideas. I have come to the conclusion that its going to be a 350chev supra5 speed combo. Have got the car nearly completely stripped and just need one more engine stand to complete my rotissarie. Have some photos will post them during the week. Will have to get your number so i can give you a call to check out the beast. Cool, Pete.

Hi there guys,

I'm doing the same thing, just wondering who did the engineering certificates to get roadworthy for the engine transplant ?
