webbered six Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Do all N42 heads have the notch for injection. If not, is this easy to do. Without taking of the manifold is there some way of identifying this? Quote
webbered six Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 Wondering if all N42 heads have notches for injection. Without pulling the manifold I guess there's no way of telling? Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 10, 2010 Moderators Posted January 10, 2010 As far as I know, all L28 cylinder heads (N42/P90/A) have the notches for the injectors. Quote
WogsRus Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I have 3 so yeah they all have it in OZ i believe Quote
webbered six Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 Thanks for answering my question. Reason I ask is I'm contenplating going down the turbo road with my N42/N42 set up for more HP. With my 3.0ltr bore and triple 45 webers, mostly stock engine apart from 72degree cam, I'm making approx 170hp @tw. 1/4 mile time 15.878. My Datto Skyline weighs 1260kg, probably heavier since the R200 went in. I'm wanting about 230HP @tw, which is asking a lot from the N/A I think, prove me wrong please. So if this figure is possible from the N/A, from the money aspect, is it better or cheaper to turbo the motor I have now or build up the N/A. I've seen stroker kits and they aint cheap and keeping in mind I can sell the triple set up to fund turbo parts. I know with turboing you can spend truck loads on turbos' and ECUs'. Also I'd have to lower my comp as it's around 9-10. Has anyone done the conversion from N/A to turbo and remember what cost were incurred. Appreciate your thoughts on this bogggling decision. webbered six Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 Also after reading the L6 cylinder head article, there was an attachment about an N42 cylinder head performance upgrade. A person in that article speaks of a N42 with no FI notches. My engine came from Nismo, it wasn't in a car here in Aus and I highly suspect from memory that it didn't have FI notches. If so can the notches be machined in. Quote
kolonelklink Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I think some of the n42s in nissan patrols had non-EFI heads as they were set up for 2bbl carbs. And yes the injector notches can be cut in easily with a dremel either when the head is off or on... make sure you stuff the ports with foam and vacuum them out thoroughly to prevent shavings getting in the head. use the EFI gasket as a guide I think there's an EFI head on ebay at the moment, might be an easier ticket than than working on an engine inside the bay. if you want to go turbo you might be better off starting a whole new engine rather than trying to alter your existing setup. cheers, Pete Quote
