Enzo Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Hi Guys, Can anyone tell me of the best coilovers kits available for a 260z and who supplies them in Australia. Also who has fitted them and are you happy with the value and handling chariteristics of the vehicle . Cheers David. Quote
sco_aus Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 ill let you know next week when i get my car back, the guy who is doing my car can get evrything needed, but i went to the states for mine (i shoulda taslked to him first. One problem we found, was that due to a lot of coilover kits being generic, I had to buy adjustable camber tops from T3 in the states to be able to use the generic top hat. Luckily I was going to do it anyway. Before that we were going to make custome top hats. I am pretty sure there are a couple of places in oz that sell suspension already set up, so that might be worth looking into depending on your budget. Anyone else got anything? Quote
Nacks Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 I had my coilovers done by Toperformance in Vermont. I had tapered-wound King springs fitted to adjustable coilover platforms plus Koni yellow dampers from a Celica installed in the front. My Koni reds from the front were rebuilt and shortened to fit the shortened rear struts. Front struts were shortened 50mm as well. Absolutely transformed the car's handling. Mind you, all that work cost me several thousand dollars so it'd want to make a fair difference. Value? I couldn't say how they compare to others out there as I didn't pursue competitive quotes. I'd had good results from Toperformance in the past so I just went with them. If that all sounds too ugly, you might consider fitting a pair of Whiteline adjustable sway bars. They're a really good cheap suspension mod that you can tune to change the way the car corners ie. understeer or oversteer. They're a bit over $200.00 each I think. Quote
Sooley Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 I did the Bilstein coilover setup. Using 260Z bodies and custom inserts. Dave at Eastcoast suspensions has been doing my cars for over 15 years and his knowledge is second to none. He works on everything from GT2 Porsches and Ferrari's. they weren't cheap but I am sure they will do the treat. Sooley Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 mm from som additional research, make sure the coilovers have rebound limits, as some of the weld on kits when you jacke the car the springs become inseated. a good setup is that similar/same az the arizona z cars website. you can adjust height independantly of the spring rate/preload which makes a massive difference to ride, as you can specify a certain amount to overcome the preload without affecting height. also their big piston shocks look second to none (have seen a few that would compare but). most coilover setups i have seen either loose their spring seats when lifted or have to have chains to limit travel or the like both are shady. nato Quote
sco_aus Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 To combat that, we put in these little retaining springs, they fully compress when driving until all of the load is off the main spring, then they push the main spring up to keep it seated. Also apart from the spring rate not being the best for my car, it was a great mod because not only is it really easy to change springrates, its also handy for height adjustment and a big one was wheel clearance. ZD44TT Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 These are ones for heismans in sydney. Custom 50mm bilsteins. I gotta say for suspension thats set up for amature level racing they ride superbly on the roads. Ane we're talking about sydney roads too. Price $4,300  (bought with car) If theres anything I don't like about this 'design' is that you can't lower the car from the bottom up to retain the shock travel - as you can with 90% of JDM coilovers these days. But I guess that would have involved alot more work and I don't know if it was possible. fronts are 325lb rears are 225lb. Wacking on a front sway bar this wkend and will test on track soon. Current ride height. [/img] Quote
