Kodie Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Im all for being maverick and I can see the sense in using an engine that is widely available but this just seems wrong... Quote
herrods Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 +1 for spawn seems to be a lot of stuffing about for something you can get out of a motor that will be easier to put in! what I really would like to see (in dream land) is if someone could get a 4.0L XR6 turbo motor in there... now that would be a lead tipped arrow Quote
garvice Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 For Herrods http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,5140.0.html 253260z, why stop at the 253? Is it a motor you really know or have? There are a lot of guys putting 351 and various other V8 motors in Z cars. They are generally american and can be found at forums.hybridz.org Few guys have done V8 conversions in Australia as well and may chime in. Quote

zed240au Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 not gonna pass judgement on choice of 253 no great issue in getting 253 into a zed been done few times that i know of tail shaft is no great issue either use holden tail shaft cut it down and holden rear end off shorten tailshaft and fit datsun rear uni and coupling shaft or go the other way cut datsun shaft down and fit holden front to it Mains issue with v8 conversion is getting it sitting back as far as u can to keep balance of car close to factory as u can otherwise gonna be pig and undrsteer would need to make up plates that bolt to engine and allow u to put engine mount forward of orginal mounts so they line up with std cross member mount in zed this is well covered in jags that runs book on how to install 350 chev into a zed would be worth buying copy has install done step by step for 350 chev not same as 253 but very similar also as 253 has dizzy at rear need to remover std bonnet catch system and make up new one so u can get dizzy about inch off firewall plenty room for v8 in zed engine bay just need look at shorty headers that bring exhaust out and clear steering or make up some shorty headers mick Quote
Ben Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Get the JTR book (and maybe even fitting kit) so you can easily mount an SB Chev in there. The Castlemaine Rod Shop do v8 kits for the Z, as do MSA in Los Angeles. Me personally - a stinking-hot SB if I had to. But with a few of these internet resources at your disposal, I'm sure you'll acheive it without too much fuss. Quote
showtime Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Why the crappy 253 they r wet why not go 4 a 308 same block and more power.Even a L28 out of the 280zx is better than a 2 fluffy 3. Just think all that time and effort for a crappy 2 fluffy 3 Please do somthing right and go 4 a 308. Quote
