Holes in floor

Hi my 76 260Z 2+2 has holes in the floor i know their meant to be their and i have the plugs but I can't for the life of me get them in I thought it would come apart any previous experiences installing these? Thanks.

if your talking about the moisture release rubbers, they are a bit difficult to get back in. I got long nose plyers to squash them and shove them in.

Measure the Dia. of the hole & the grove Dia. of the new bung - if it's larger it wont fit.

If it's the same size as the hole in the floor, just work harder at pushing it in!

Try spraying a bit of petrol on the rubber - its amazing how well petrol lubricates rubber, and then it evaporates away, unlike rubber grease which remains and causes things to pop out long after you thought they were nicely seated.  And for grommets with groove all the way round, i use a flat blade screwdriver and work around pushing the lip through the hole.

 

Sounds like you might be talking about little tapered doohickeys with a kind of barb though, in which case PETROL! And maybe a pair of pliers to pull the tail through on the other side, rather than pushing it from the top.  If you push from the top, it squashes the thing down, and makes its diameter bigger.  If you can pull it through, it stretches and makes the diameter smaller!

Another alternative is some "personal lubricant"    ie. KY jelly etc, works a treat and dries away without risk of damage (or dryness and irritation)

Or try a rasping file and make the OD of the hole slightly larger.........

Good idea with the petrol but i had an idea left the bungs in the freizer overnight and then put them in as they heated up they worked fine. Thanks for the contribution.
