nuclear_z Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Hi guys and girls! Interesting conundrum... I have recently had my alternator totally refurbished by Narellan Auto Electrical, a firm I have had a long time relationship with and trust their work. I also had them go over the car and check the head light wiring (which looked like vomited spaghetti) and make sure that I didnt have anything draining too much current when it is off... I leave the car last Thursday at home, it was working fine and didnt have any issues what so ever, and go off for the weekend. I drive it to work on Tuesday and yesterday (approx 150km), and the battery goes completely flat - cant start it. I drove it back to the auto electrician and he tells me it must be the warning light circuit. Apparently the warning light circuit on a 240 is the circuit that tells the alternator to charge or not, and when it is broken, it doesnt charge... Does this ring true for anyone? All I can say is, that when I get the warning light on (on accessories), then turn the car on (light goes off), the alternator charges. Currently, the warning light does not illuminate at all and I am not charging... Does anyone have any knowledge about this? If so, can you please let me know of some potential problems... Cheers, Thomas Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 16, 2009 Moderators Posted April 16, 2009 I'm no autoelec, but I have heard that the globe in the gauge for the "charge light" is important. Long time ago I was tempted to replace it with something else and was told it has to be a specific wattage globe. Not sure how true and accurate that is but have left it alone and all is well. Should be easy to change if you have small child like arms that can reach behind the dash. Quote
zzzzed Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 yes this souds correct to me sorry i have nothing to help you though Quote
nuclear_z Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 Unfortunately for me I do not have little arms, nor hands... But I did get the job done! And it was piss easy Basically one of the wires off the back of the light had wriggled loose.... Plug it back on, and Bobs your uncle, Marys your Aunt, and its fixed. Quote
