stevo_gj Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Hey guys, I am looking for part time work that relates to mechanical engineering in Brisbane. I am really excited about doing engineering design work and also using CAD software to reproduce and assist in the creation of such design. I am starting my third year at UQ doing Mech Eng. I am studying full time at uni, but I hope to find a job that involves 1-2 days a week doing this work. I've been working here at Oaky North mine for 2 months now, and I am not looking forward to working in the mining industry long term. At least not if it involves living in a country town like Tieri... Also the work they have me doing is not even related to mechanical engineering, which means that although I am learning plenty about how to use tape measure and data entry, I am not learning my profession. Thanks, Steve Quote
nuclear_z Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Mate, my partner is an Environmental Engineer and she was in a similar situation when she was an undergrad. Her old employer was essentially using her as an admin assistant. Shoot your resume off to some engineering firms and let them know what your interested in. You'll get some good response I bet as Mech Engineers are a rare breed... Thomas Quote
stevo_gj Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 Cheers Thomas, I am already on it. I thought I might put a notice up here in case someone who works in a machine shop or the like in Brisbane could use the occasional mech eng design. I have also heard that engineering companies often hire undergrad Mech Engineers to do the CAD work that their engineers don't have the time for. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. Steve Quote
