ZD44TT Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Hi guys, has anyone ever experienced an air pocket in their coolant system before? I've had this annoying overheating issue recently........seems to heat up after a stop start......... so while stationary it would kool down.........then a few secs after i drive off it heats up...... as though the coolant isn't flowing correctly or flowing fast enough. Moderators Zedman240® Posted October 10, 2008 Moderators Posted October 10, 2008 Strange problem there! Usually its the opposite. First thing I would do is remove your thermostat and test it in some boiling water and a thermometer that goes to 100C. Check at what temp it starts to open. Or even better, go to a Nissan dealership and buy a genuine thermostat for it. I swore never to buy another Tildon or whatever they are called again! Bought one, fitted it and car overheated straight away! It was jammed shut. Bought a Nissan one and has never given me any issues. Quote
ZD44TT Posted October 10, 2008 Author Posted October 10, 2008 do the heads of the 260z and 240z flow the same? I assume they do but to the rear of the head on the driver side: on a 240z the exit to the heater is a single exit where as on the 260z the exit is split up. I don't think this matters does it? Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted October 12, 2008 Moderators Posted October 12, 2008 Internally I think all L series heads coolant passages are all the same. Plumbing on the outside is something different though. I've seen zeds with different ways to plumb the water when the water by-pass that flows through the carbies is removed. I put in a steel fitting from a 280C with the 2 outlets and plumb in an extra hose to the "y" junction that bolts to the block. So if your heater is in the "cold" position, water can still flow through the head. And I add another by-pass from that connection behind the water pump to under the thermostat. I'll look for a pic if I took one to help you picture it. It replaces that pipe connection that runs through the carbies that everyone removes. Quote
ZD44TT Posted October 12, 2008 Author Posted October 12, 2008 discovered it was a dodgey thermalstat...........hahahhaha arrrrrrrrgh. Quote

Moderators Zedman240® Posted October 24, 2008 Moderators Posted October 24, 2008 Either 240 or 260; I'm sure they are all the same. Even the opening temp of 82'C. The temp sender is under the thermostat housing; a yellow wire going to a slip on spade connector. Under the top radiator hose. Quote
