Administrators gav240z Posted January 29, 2017 Administrators Posted January 29, 2017 I'm just going to prefix this and say replacements lids are available here: http://www.240zrubberparts.com/apps/webstore/products/show/6337398 There was an attempt to make reproduction whole trays - but as you can see they look like a dogs breakfast. See here and here. First up is: Ashtray #1 This ashtray has broken (quite cleanly) between the top cover part and the lower part. If you have a repair method in mind, I'd say this would be a good ashtray since you can hardly tell when you put them together. As hopefully the photos show. Asking price: $85 + postage. Ashtray #2 This ashtray has been previously repaired in the top right corner. It's a very minor crack. Which could use a better adhesive to fix it and neaten it up. The gunk on it is from a vinyl glue which was on it. It does come off. Asking price: $150 + postage. Ashtray #3 Hopefully the photos do all the talking, cracked shell and lid. It could be repaired, but will require a bit of skill with a dremel I think. Asking price: $50 + postage. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 29, 2017 Author Administrators Posted January 29, 2017 Ashtray #4 This has already been repaired, the left hand side has a minor crack. The lid spring is with it, but it's broken a bit (so short) and will need replacing anyway. Price: $170 + postage Ashtray #5 The gem LOL, no really quite rough. It's got some metal plate "riveted" on it, which is sort of holding it together. Good for spares I guess? I'm guessing for what it's worth, it's not worth a trip to the post office. Humor me with an offer? Or maybe you've got something equally broken to trade? May accept a spare lid spring in exchange (I'm missing 1). Price: $offers Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 31, 2017 Author Administrators Posted January 31, 2017 I'll give it another few days, then I'll consider listing on eBay. If no interest I might try repair a couple and see how they turn out. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 30, 2017 Author Administrators Posted August 30, 2017 Still got these, quick bump for them. I saw some ashtray spares sell for $40 USD recently (chrome ring, ashtray metal parts etc..).. so these have got to be worth something to someone. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted September 6, 2017 Author Administrators Posted September 6, 2017 Trays #1 and #3 are sold. - Haven't posted yet (sorry mate will do so soon!) Quote
aircobra Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 i like #5, only need the cig lighter surrond Quote
aircobra Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 what are the "reproduction" phots? did you make them Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted September 6, 2017 Author Administrators Posted September 6, 2017 i like #5, only need the cig lighter surrond And a lot of plastic welding... what are the "reproduction" phots? did you make them No I didn't make them. They were done by Jay Ataka of JDM car parts. https://jdm-car-parts.com/collections/interior-trim-nissan-datsun-fairlady-z-240z-260z-280z-280zx/products/reproduction-fuse-cover-ash-tray-for-datsun-240z-series-1-1969-8-1971 Reproduction Fuse box cover / Ash Tray for Datsun 240Z Series 1 1969-8/1971 This product was made to help customers with "hard-to-find expensive original ash tray". This item does NOT function as actual ash tray as it is made of plastic. LOL.. It does not come with chrome ring around cigarette lighter opening It does not come with ash tray hardware including spring loaded mechanism This is an alternative product for those of you do not wish to spend over $500 for an used original ash tray in the market today. If you are very particular about originality of your car, this item is NOT for you. These are made of fiber glass *Original one was made of bakelite material. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted September 6, 2017 Author Administrators Posted September 6, 2017 If you see a combination of parts you want make an offer. Ashtray bits sold for around $40 AUD on eBay here recently. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/152669877221?rmvSB=true I prefer not to remove the chrome rings on these too often as the little tabs break from old age... Administrators gav240z Posted September 6, 2017 Author Administrators Posted September 6, 2017 Also honestly #4 is excellent really the repair is ok, but from the top side you cannot see any cracks or damage, if you re-chrome the trim ring it will look as good as a $400-$500 original. #2 is also very good with a clean up and the crack could be better repaired. I've seen similar sell for $250 USD on eBay US. If there is no interest here I'll advertise there. Quote
aircobra Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 i'm too late to the party, i wanted #3 as i just need the lid, the rest of my one is perfect don;t suppose you;ve got the cig lighter bracket? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted September 6, 2017 Author Administrators Posted September 6, 2017 #3 lid has had a repair (cracked anyway) so better off ordering via www.240zrubberparts.com if all you need is a lid. http://www.240zrubberparts.com/apps/webstore/products/show/6337398 No brackets sorry.
