Bought my '72 240 with a manifold to fit twin SU's. Only problem, the bloke didn't have any lying around, but he did give me a 350 Holley. I'm wondering what decision to make as I am leaning towards the twins to gain performance. But what about fuel injection? The car had previously had tripple webbers on it but unfortunately he sold them for $1500 before he sold the car. I am also cautious about costs as I am only on a 16 year old's budget.

Please give me your thoughts.

Go with Twin Su's you can make 280HP out of an L28 with just Twin Su's. :)

I have a spare set but I really don't want to part with them.

Try US Ebay. :D

Do NOT put a holley on it. Sell the holley to some idiot who drives an older ford/holden and doesn't know what the hell hes doing, probably get around $400 for it, if you're smart about it, which will cover the cost of SU's.

Once again, I'll quote someone I can't remember - "a holleys not a carbie, its a bucket with holes in it." Very difficult (in many cases impossible) to tune a holley right all through the rev range, will often run rich at most rpm, and be right in a band of about 1000 revs. Run the twin SU's, and you'll get much better throttle response and economy.

Check Ozdat, SU's often come up quite cheaply there, also check Ebay, i saw 3 SUs go for about $150 one day - unfortunately I was short on cash (as usual) at the time. If you're really stuck, I have flattop Hitachis still bolted to the side of my L26, but I'd rather not pull them off (want to sell motor complete), and I think being 16 you have plenty of time to wait for the bits you want to come up for sale.

L28 and L26 are the motors. The L is the motor model code, refers generally to the older nissan engines with intake and exhaust ports on the same side of the head.

28 and 26 is the capacity (2.8 and 2.6 litres). The capacity also tells you which car it came from, as 240zs were 2.4 litres (or L24), 260s 2.6 litres, and so on.

L28s fairly obviously then, come from a 280zx, and are sort after as a basis of most power upgrades for early zeds - in my zed I have a fuel injected L28, which is why I have an L26 with carbs sitting under my bench.

As a side note, in pretty much any nissan engine code, the numbers tell you the capacity.

JP, my 260z came with a holley on it and believe me getting rid of it was the best thing i could have possibly done for the car...i was having so much trouble with getting it tuned (spent $$$ on gettin it tuned only to have it the slightest bit better then when i started)...it went on to have problems were it would be very jerky in 2nd gear because it was burning the fuel too quickly which also lead to shit milage out of a 50L tank of petrol

fortunatly i got the twin su's wif my car as well so i juz needed to buy a kit and install myself

definatly get rid of the holley, if you havent already

I'm doing an RB conversion on my 240 and have a set of SU's if you are still chasing some. I'll have to check if I still have the manifold, I probably do. Carbs have been reconditioned and are in good nick.

Sounds good MrDatto,

Will need the manifold to fit SU's, do you have the airbox?

I am interested, just let me know your price.

Thanks,

Jack.

I will go throught the garage on my days off which are Fri/sat this week. I'm not looking for tooo much. Would be happy with around $100 (carbs and maniflod included) plus shipping if that would suit. I can take some photos before you commit. Get back to you via email as soon as sorted.

Sounds good.

If you've got the airbox, that would be handy, but if not, no worries.

Thaks MrDatto.

Keep in touch via email.

Jack.
