RBZ 260 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 have you removed the starter motor? Have you disconnected all the cables and pipes connecting the box and the car? im also assuming you have removed the tailshaft. other than those things gearbox should just slide off. check for snagging wires and dipstick. that can cause troubles sometime. have removed few gboxes and done few conversion from auto to man. and most times a loose cable gets caught on the dipstick of the auto (best to remove it straight away). not sure what that person is refering to as compartment in the box that needs to be opened and something removed. Scoota G Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Dude, Sounds like you need to take off the access plate under the car and remove the four bolts that hold the torque convertor to the flex plate. Best bet is to grab a workshop manual for the car or failing that your local library may have one that you can look at. Having a workshop manual is worth the price but. Also ther may (i say May) be damage to the convertor and that is it is not sliding out easily. I always tend to spray a healty dose of WD40 the day before i remove anything. Just had my L26 out it slid away from the gearbox real easy but did have a leaking rear main seal which would have helped. Good Luck Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 19, 2008 Moderators Posted March 19, 2008 Scootag is 100% on that! In front of the sump on the auto should be an inspection plate you can remove. 2 Bolts from memory. You can peek inside and see the torque converter and the flex plate (like a flywheel but thinner. Bolted to it is the torque converter. You have to remove a bolt at a time and rotate the crank to undo all 4 bolts. It should separate then! Have fun! Quote
maddos Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Shouldn't have to remove torque converter to separate motor and box, but the inspection plate you blokes are talking about on the lower half of the bell housing will allow you to get as far as you have and then stop. Split mine about a month ago and got the same result. For some reason thought I'd be able to split it with that plate on. Quote
