Difficulty of putting 4 point racing harnesses on a 240

Is it possible to bolt them straight on or do i need a bar. Im getting sparco 4 point harnesses on the original seats. If someone who has done it, could you please tell me the difficulty of installation and the cost.

With the harness, do you have a cage?

 

Without a bar across the strut towers in the rear it will be near impossible to easily mount the harness without being dangerous. The back straps of the harness should be at an angle of between horizontal and, from memory 30 degrees below horizontal. The fitting instructions should show this.

 

A bolt in strut brace in the rear would not be something I would consider anywhere near strong enough to cope with, or trust, a harness mount to in the event of a crash.

Propoer mounting of seat belts is a pretty important thing and something you don't want to stuff up. Unless you can do it properly and safely, you are better off with the standard 3 way belt using the factory mounts.

When i bought my car it had a standard seat and a 4 point harness with no cage.  The shoulder straps bolted to the floor right at the back of the car.  This was ok but it makes the shoulder straps very long which may cause them to stretch in an accident.  Also a heavy impact from the rear would cause the shoulder straps to become loose.  Another thing is that the standard Z seat is not very 'harness friendly'.  The harness going around the head rest means that the shoulder straps don't fit properly.

 

In short, it can be done but is far from ideal, and as PZG302 said it is potentially dangerous.

I've looked at this and there is no legal way to mount them without a cage bar at the apropriate height. As PZG302 said, there is a limit of degrees for mounting them. The reason they don't let you mount them to the floor as per Scando's post is that in the event of an accident the low mounted straps will contract your back and can potantially leave you in a wheel chair.

seats cage and roll bars all need engineer's cert.. i hope your all running with this... like i am in the 32.. haha not..
