Zeddophile Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 How many of you guys are running them, and what do you think of them? Its looking to be about the only resort to get rims in the style i want onto the zed - with a 30mm thick adapter, can run anything off a 180sx etc..... Apparently the standard offset for 260z's on the book is 10mm (according to Donellans in Box Hill), just in case I wasn't the only one who wasn't sure of the exact figure. - hmmm, wonder how these would look on a white zed with a black bonnet..... http://firesport.ipspace.com/?section=item&action=show&id=28848 Quote
Toecutter Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 Hi Ben, I got them custom made from the US. I've been quite happy with them but I've decided I want that deep dish flared look so I'm moving on to 3 piece 9.5 inch wheels. If your not sure about adapters your welcome to try my ones out once I get my new wheels. That is if I've still got them. You can order them from the company listed below and they make them to custom sizes. I decided to go for 1.75 inch thick with 114.3mm PCD and 66.1 centre bore, keeping in mind you can always get them machined down should you decide to change wheels with diff offset. www.ezaccessoty.com From memory you'll pay about AUD$400 shipped to Melbourne. Not too bad a price considering all the wheel choices you end up with. Cheers Sulio Quote
Zeddophile Posted October 16, 2005 Author Posted October 16, 2005 Well, one of my mates knows someone who makes billet adapters for i think V8 supercars, which adapt from five stud to the big single nut type, so he can get them made up for me if I decide to go that way, probably quite cheap.... Had a bit of a browse for wheels this afternoon, I think I quite like ANZ Voltecs in shadow chrome, but I don't think they make them anymore..... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ANZ-Voltec-17-x-7-8-Shadow-Chrome-wheels-Tyres_W0QQitemZ8005085558QQcategoryZ6782QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Quote
Toecutter Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 Those wheels look great. Try to measure up your adapters to fit those 8 inch size rims at the back to fit 225. The combination of 205 front and 225 are a good fit and look nice and chunky at the rear without having heavy stearing at the front. Sulio Quote
Zeddophile Posted March 30, 2006 Author Posted March 30, 2006 Sulio: How the f&*^$%^@$$#!&^&^$#^@$%#@@!$king hell did you manage to run 7 inch wide rims under standard gaurds? On paper I need to run a 30mm spacer for both the 16x7 fronts and for the 16x8 rears, which leaves me with the tyre possibly just being under the top of the front gaurd (but sticking out anywhere past the centre of the wheelarch), and with about 20mm of tyre sticking out on the rear, after moving about 10mm closer to the strut... You must have had pretty close to the right offset rims with yours..... Oh well, I forsee flares! Quote
Zeddophile Posted March 30, 2006 Author Posted March 30, 2006 hmm - just had a look at your 2004 gallery, with the 17x7 Lensos, and I must be able to do it, because yours had 10mm more offset, which will give me more room to play with at the front (hopefully!) and about even out at the rear (with my 13mm extra width). Yours didn't look particularly odd sitting flush with the edge of the gaurd (which was my concern just before), and I think my rims have a bit more dish, which should help a bit to create an illusion that they aren't sitting out so far.... How'd you space your rims out when you were working out the adaptors? Did you have to knock two studs out of each hub, or what was the deal? And do you remember what your rear adaptors were in terms of thickness, since I can probably run almost exactly the same at the rear by the time your offset difference cancels my rim width.... Quote
Toecutter Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Hi Ben, I had plenty of room with the 17x7 and the 15x7. From memory the adapters were 45mm thick both front and back. I suggest you go for a tad less, like 40mm. The best way to do it without any trial and error is to mount your wheels and see how they sit. Get some long bolts with the same thread as your studs and cut them so that your left with just thread. Then extend 2 of your studs by using the nut as a bush to extend your studs with the length of cut bolt. You can now put your wheel on using these extended "studs" to guide and secure the wheel. I used the other two studs to "pack" on peices of 5mm thick steel plate to hold the weight when the car was released from jack and also as a guide for adapter thickness I would need. I found this was a good system because I played around with many diff thickness adapter until clearance was good all round and I could let the car sit for a good idea of it's stance. I might have lost you but a rough sketch below. Just be careful when you lower the car in regards to weight distribution. I kept the studs in a horizontal plane with the weight resting on the plates which as you can see had holes drilled in them so they could sit over the other two studs and not fall off. You can add and remove flat plates until you get the car sitting right with no tyre rub and filling out the guards to get the "look" right and once decided just measure the amount of packing you have to get the adapter thickness. Also good because you can check on steering and tyre rub on the front valance. Quote
Zeddophile Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 hmmm ..... your wheels must have sat pretty damn close to the front strut yeah? with my math, your rim sat 10mm closer than stock, even with the adaptors - I don't know if theres even 10mm clearance to my strut (there certainly isn't with the tyre there, but i think it'll be rim sitting there with 16s... I wonder if yours has smaller struts..... Quote
Toecutter Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 I had plenty of room on both front and rear strutts. would'nt be surprised if the early 260 had smaller strutts. But then again I ordered standard lowered springs from King springs so the coil diameter is probably the same as yours. If you mount the rims with 10mm space tyre to strutt, how much room will that give you on the guard/tyre dist? Quote
