aircobra Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 I have recently purchased a 3 phase welder to do some panel work. Unfortuntely I don't have 3 phase power to the house, so I go and hire a 10KVA gen with what looks like a 20 amp pulg with a 16 A circut breaker, Anyway, the welder works, but doesn't produce enough punch for a 5 mm nugget. If I let if run a bit longer, it heats up the weld, but that's not the answer - most spot welds are over . 9500 amps and 10 cycles, thus over in 1/2 sec or less The welder's a bit of an old hack, but looks like it will handle 35 amp and comes with a 32A plug Does anyone know how much these units actually draw ? rb240 Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 If the generator's 16A circuit breaker didn't trip, that would suggest that the welder draws less than 16A. Does the welder have a fuse? If so, its current rating could give you an idea of the expected draw. Quote
