Help With 3 Phase Spot Welders - How Many Kva/amps

Recommended Posts

I have recently purchased a 3 phase welder to do some panel work. Unfortuntely I don't have 3 phase power to the house, so I go and hire a 10KVA gen with what looks like a 20 amp pulg with a  16 A circut breaker,

Anyway, the welder works, but doesn't produce enough punch for a 5 mm nugget. If I let if  run a bit longer, it heats up the weld, but that's not the answer - most spot welds are over . 9500 amps and 10 cycles, thus over in 1/2 sec or less

The welder's a bit of an old hack, but looks like it will handle 35 amp and comes with a 32A plug

Does anyone know how much these units actually draw ?

If the generator's 16A circuit breaker didn't trip, that would suggest that the welder draws less than 16A.  Does the welder have a fuse?  If so, its current rating could give you an idea of the expected draw.
