cracker Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I've managed to secure an L28 that will eventually find it's way into my engine bay. It's 100+ km away and am wondering what would be the best way to transport it? I don't have any purpose made gear ie. engine stand, so am thinking the best method would be to use an old truck tyre (either in the back of the Prado or in the trailer) with tie downs and protection on all machined faces? Any ideas appreciated. Cheers, James Quote
PZG302 Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 A tyre in the back of the ute and the engine in the tyre and tied off so it can't rock sideways has worked for me for many engines. I usually put some tape over the ports to stop crap getting into the motor if it hasn't got manifolds on it but otherwise not much else. Throwing it in a trailer will be easier than getting it into the back of a Prado. Quote
Six_Shooter Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Yep, sounds like a good plan, the same has worked for me on many occasions, also without the use of a tire on a few occasions. I assume it's a complete engine? The only reason I question this is your mention of machined surfaces, which if it's disassembled, just use a piece of plywood to protect the machined surfaces, but you'll likely want to lay it on it's side anyways if that is the case. cracker Posted September 4, 2015 Author Posted September 4, 2015 Thanks guys, Never transported one before so was looking for reassurance that my plan of attack made sense - cheers!! I'm actually not sure how assembled or disassembled it will be, so want to take everything I need to protect it no matter the state of assembly. Quote
