The tray itself is spot welded in place, but it's usually underneath where they rot out due to battery acid eating away at the steel. There is meant to be a plastic tray underneath the battery but most have been removed over the years. Attached photo from my car HS30 00150 - which did have the plastic tray and was spared a rusty death.. Quote
