beetle2 Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I have just bought a 260z and plan to put a Gen III in it. I read the article about Georges car and would like to talk/email him. I am unfamiliar with how to best use the Forums and I am not sure how to get a PM to George direct. Hope someone can help or George can reply. Cheers Quote
sco_aus Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=502 At the bottom of the page it has links to send him a message etc Scott Quote
620Z Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Make sure you have plenty of spare cash and time. Good luck with it. Quote
V8Datto Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 George will see this soon enough and post back, just a note, George did pick up his Z with the V8 already installed, also I'm looking to put a V8 into a 240z and have found that I'm limited to about a 4.0L engine by law (Victoria with full road reg) 4 x the weight of the vehicle = max engine cc 240Z's are rated at 1045kg (approx from memory) so that's around 4.18L engine max so it's a good idear to check that it's legal before you spend the money Quote
beetle2 Posted January 23, 2008 Author Posted January 23, 2008 Thanks for your help. I saw Georges name but wasn't sure if he was the correct George. I have sent him a direct message. Andrew Quote
HELLFIRE! Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 The 260Z is 1150kg on rego sticker 1150 x 4 = 4.600Litre Quote

620Z Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I must have done my car prior to those rules being introduced in Vic. I have a 350 Chev stroked to 383 or 6.2 litres in my 2+2. Never had any problems. But I guess it was all approved over 10 years ago. Quote
V8Datto Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Yeah rules changed about 12 months ago, not 100% sure, I think it was around the time Vic roads brought in the VASS certificate for modified, imported, and individually constructed vehicles. The Engineer I spoke to over the phone wasn't totally sure either, I'd say they have guide-lines and not rules, so you never know there might be ways around it. does anyone know the rules for historic and classic registered car's? 620Z Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Another way and I am sure a cheaper way is to buy one already done. Then you would have the complience for the 5.8 litre V8, presuming you want a real V8 in the car. Ha. They go cheap and then you have spare cash to finish it off the way you want it with all the hard work done. Beleive me there is a lot of work starting from scratch. I have found most who start never finish them or just get them on the road and sell them since all their time, money and patience is run out. You need to be dedicated to the project to see it through. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 You need to be dedicated to the project to see it through. Well said... i thought of pulling the plug few times but i wanted to see it through one way or the other. and mines only an RB done countless times. In SA rules are different too... they go by power rating.. and dyno papers are useless.. has to be printed manufacturers statment from eaither a brochure or service manual.. they allow 20-25% increase in power from original (which is crap) without engineers. With engineers report u can pretty much stuff whatever u please... having chatted to Adelaide RTA Inspector they did inspect a 240z with LS1 with twin superchargers and producing an excess of 600hp.. and it went through... all i knew it was engineered and car was done properly to show car standard..how they fit twin super chargers or what type they were in the bay with a 350 is beyond me Still trying to find out who the owner is,as i dont see it driving around. its either still not finished or wrapped around a tree. who knows. zed240au Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 its not the big things that wear your patience and money thin its the little things must be crazy Having installed Nissan V8 and sorted out all its issues only to start again with the Ls1 but needed more power what more can i say did take 10 years to forget the headaches from the last one and start new transplant mick Quote
620Z Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Yeah you are right it is the little things. When you see the bank account constantly drained and you spend the big bucks to set everything and installed only to have your plans foiled by minor niggly things that stop the car running or driving nice. Electrical, Tuning, idling, diff rattles, heavy steering, clutch, drivetrain, over heating etc etc. Makes you want to toss it away and move on. I thankfully have my car pretty close to where I want it now. A joy to drive and just sitting in the guarage nice and clean ready for a cruise any time. But it took 10 years and a lot of cash to get to this point. Quote
Robstar Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Forget the GEN III and the LS1 and go for a JDMVH41DE. If you need me to elaborate, I will. Quote
zed240au Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 good luck with the JDMVH41DE im sure its a fine engine and will make a great conversion what box you planning on running behind it I have to agree a late model nissan V8 in a 240z is a great choice why not go the vh45de my reason for choosing Gen III or Ls1 which ever you want to call it is A 300 kw as u bolt it in B you can buy engineered mounting kits for it to suit 240z C the aftermarket parts for ls1 is huge anything you want to do you can buy off shelf D tuners already know how to tune computer dont need expensive aftermarket computer E After fitting Nissan v8 4.4 ltr and with no aftermarket parts anywhere I wanted an engine could buy parts for off the shelf anywhere not continually have to make my own F there is a wealth of knowledge on hybridz.org about ls1 conversion admittedly to do with Lhd good luck with the Jdmvh41de Quote

I love all engines, but I'm a big fan of keeping Nissan-Nissan. At first I was going to go with a T-56, just going to go with the Z32 manual tranny in the end, there is an adaptor thank god. Obviously the scene for a VH engine isn't large, considering the over-engineered engine was mispackaged into a luxury model car which had it's value depreciate at an incredible rate over the years, you could pick up a Nissan Cima half cut for about 1k - 1.5k. The JDM spec VH41DE is also superior to the VH45DE, the only difference between the two was 400cc and the duplex timing chain setup, VH41 never had troubles with it's timing chains. Also the heads flow better than the VH45DE and the VH45 internals can fit into the VH41, they're practically the same engine with different internals. The aftermarket scene is near zilch when it comes to the VH, sure, but it's incredible engine with an indestructible bottom end--more so than the RB25's bottom end. Lighter than an RB, Wide alloy block, fits closer to the firewall for optimum weight balance and makes 300 - 350hp easily with little to no changes to the stock internals, also the ECU is a 32bit IIRC and can be tuned perfectly for the engine for optimum performance, although with a VH, you'll have plenty of torque for 300hp. Gonna be hard putting to the ground without some good tires. =] I could go on and on and on, but I'll save taking over the OP's thread. Hahaha! (Also, for the record, when I start the project, screw intellectual property; i'll post how exactly the engine mounts, subframe & drivetrain was built specifically for a 260z chassis, right down to the MM for the world to try, I would love to see a more positive outlook on the wonder that is the VH, except the USDMVH41DE, that engine is a piece of rubbish). EDIT: Just edited out the swearing, haha; just to keep it sensible. =] Quote
beetle2 Posted January 25, 2008 Author Posted January 25, 2008 I am new to these Forums and its great to see how much interest it generates. I understand it will be alot of work but if you go to www.pumaclubman.com you will see the last car I made so I am aware of some of the issues I face. cheers Andrew Quote
