Vic Dyno Hire Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Hi guys, I've just noticed a head gasket weep between cyl 4 and 5 plugs. It does have some old staining from when the car was last run 8 years ago. It this a common thing? Maybe a head corrosion problem? And can someone recommend a good gasket for a hot engine? Its making petty good grunt now, so want to keep it sealing. Thanks again, Simon Quote
dat2kman Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 When you pull the head, have a look at/for corrosion at water ports, sitting for 8 years will have had a bit of galvanic reaction going on, get it skimmed to a surface finish f RA40. Pro-Torque head gaskets are pretty good. If you run higher comp, I have a new 91 mm Nismo MLS 1mm thick gasket i can sell. Quote
Vic Dyno Hire Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Thanks heaps for that. I'll remove the head and measure the gasket thickness. I didn't build the engine and are not sure of valve to piston clearance or comp. I've been happy with the MLS on the A12, but 1mm might be a bit thin once I get the head skimmed on this one. I'll measure it and get back in touch. Might be a couple of weeks before I get to it. Ta heaps Quote
dat2kman Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Before surfacing, the water passage holes may need a touch of weld around them. If leaving blck in car, fill up bores with lots of cloth, and carefully run a big flat lapstone over it, high spots will be around the headbolt holes, the smoother and flatter you can get it the better.
