Administrators gav240z Posted October 4, 2005 Administrators Posted October 4, 2005 Hi guys I bought a set of Recaro's just wondering for those of you who have had to install aftermarket seats before *cough* Ashley what you had to do to get them in? The Recaro's have the rails wider apart than Standard which means it looks like I'd have to drill new holes. Since I was it to pass engineering at vicroads I need it to be safe and done properly and I think it would be best to avoid that. So anyone? I've tried calling Ideal Seats in Moorabbin bit expensive though and not entirely confident with what they were saying. Quote
Zeddophile Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 Well, if I were doing it, I'd make up an adapter rail which bolts to the bottom of the seat, and has a hole in the right spot for the zed mountings. Probably would be a full frame in the shape of a square, with a diagonal crosspiece, made out of 20mm box steel. But then again, I have access to a welder and a lot of other stuff..... Quote
zr240 Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 HI Gav All the aftermarket seats I have put in are for the race car and I just drill new holes and bolt em in with nice big washers. Having said that I make sure there is plenty of metal were I drill the new holes and that the seats are nice a secure once bolted in. After my crach with the race car I noticed the seat didnt pull out of the holes I drilled(but bent the whole seat braket!!) so I reckon its safe to do it this way. If you want to see how and were I mounted mine give us a yell and I can show you how I did it Ash Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted October 6, 2005 Author Administrators Posted October 6, 2005 Hey Ashley, Yeah I understand where your coming from. I'm have a thing about safety  . Especially since I will also be installing the passenger seat and want my g/f to be safe . I'm thinking of taking a few measurements and drawing up a diagram of a bracket that will allow me to bolt into the original spot on the Z and on the seats. I have had some experience with welding before(I did a short tafe course when I was going to restore my old 240z). Hopefully I can get a hold of Costa so I can go around there and use his welder. They came with a set of rails that I might be able to modify rather than use the stock rails . Quote
zr240 Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 I have a mig welder myself so if you have your brakets ready you are welcome to cruse around and weld em Ash Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted October 6, 2005 Author Administrators Posted October 6, 2005 Hi Ashley, Thanks for the offer I'll see what I can do about taking the measurements up and drawing up a diagram to follow. I want to get them right the first time and be happy with the position so I will take my time planning them. I might also consider designing them in such a way that I can create a tutorial for others to follow. I had intended to do that with the Tokico install as you can see from the gallery I was taking photos along the way but I realised I didn't have the time to finish it before Lurch's midnight cruise if I was going to do that. Administrators gav240z Posted November 22, 2005 Author Administrators Posted November 22, 2005 I got my seats in take a look at the pics Quote
zedevan Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 i went in my cousins dc5 type r today and dam they are comfy seats, i think they are slightly different to yours but same thing really, so hopefully he writes off his car and sells them to me! i never realised there was actully a noticable difference when "vtec kicked in yo" Quote
Zeddophile Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Well vtec is a completely different cam profile that is actuated by solenoids at whatever RPM it is, so of course you'll feel a difference. Quote

If you go www.ebaumsworld.com and visit the forums there are kids talking about cars in that way  . Be careful what you wish for with your cousin. Yeah the Recaro's in the Type-R are different I prefer the look of mine personally but of course I'm biased and yes they really are so much more comfortable. As I've probably mentioned before I love the original stock seats but they just don't cut it when it comes to ride quality and comfort my back is very grateful now . I've still kept the originals though incase I get soft one day and want my car all original. Quote
aidannn Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 sorry for massive thread revival but just wondering how you ended up fitting the recaros? did you make a custom rail like u previously mentioned? Quote
