Azman1984 Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Hey guys, Looking at purchasing myself another Zed to do up. Have my eye on one in particular but it has some rust that I have not had to repair before. I know it has some rust in the sil panel on the drivers side and in the front guards. It also has a rust hold maybe an inch or two in size just below the drivers side rear pop out window. Has anybody had experience with a repai in this area? Is it worth it? I have a few panel beater friends who can help me with the repair and time is not an issue, but they don't have experience with Zed's so any help/info would be great. Will try get a pic of it when I go back and look at the car again Quote
Retro Z Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Yeah. Sounds normal for a Z. There will be much more rust elsewherr aswell. They commonly rust on the floorpans, hatch slam panel, doors, tyre well, battery tray, nosecone, radiator support...pretty much everywhere Quote
Azman1984 Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 Yeah I have fixed most of those I previous Z's just weighing up if this ones worth t It. Never done a repair in that spot just curious for info on how hard it is, am I likely to find more underneath once I cut that patch out. Quote
thriller Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I had that on both sides on the 260z. It was one of the least rusty shells I've seen, so I wouldn't be too stressed about it if I were you I doubt any more rust would be underneath, as the rust there is from moisture getting stuck in the weather seal, not from the inside (in contrast to doglegs and the fender areas). Fortunately mine was only surface pitting, nowhere near needing metal replacement. Quote
Azman1984 Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 Thanks Thriller, I appreciate the info. Going to have a better look at the car over the weekend hopefully. Going to be a longer term project for me and my son and the car itself comes in well under my budget so it gives me a decent head start $$ wise on the rust repairs Quote
