Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone is selling a 240z/260z drivers door skin they may have purchased from rare spares or similar and never fitted or used? My drivers door skin is probably beyond saving...I've seen rare spares Adelaide on eBay is selling them, but thought I'd try my luck here and see if anyone has 1 that's sitting around etc..

I won't know if I need the door shell till I whip the old skin off and check the door shell out for rust etc...

If anyone has feedback on the panel gaps and how they line up compared with OEM I'd be interested in any potential issues etc..?

Cheers,

hey Gav,

I maybe ordering some skins from rare spares also (my doors need a lot of work). I was over at Retro Z's place last night and he showed me a door he had re-skinned using the rare spares skin. The body line was spot on and fitted very well, but Tai did mention a noticable gap that he had to close between the top of the door to the top of the front guard (where the front gaurd goes over the door). Might pay to ask him, but as for aftermarket panels it's luck-of-the-draw.

Adam.

Sounds good, would be nice to see a photo of the gap. I'm pretty sure others have told me the same before about the rare spares door skins.

Yeah Gav. The skins fit good. Just that edge mentioned comes a little short. I had to add about 2-3mm to close up the gap. Same on both sides.

If you were in Melbourne i would lend you one to try..i have like 5 here. But they are not for sale lol

If you get a chance to photograph exactly what modifications are required let me know? I think I know what you're talking about but it would be good to see exactly what 'massaging' is required to make them fit right.

I'm going to get the door skin off first (I suspect that will take some time), see if my Tafe course instructor thinks we can replicate it, if it's too much hassle I'll order 1 from Rare Spares.

I don't have any pictures of what i did at the time, but i just used a mild steel welding rod and mig welded it onto the edge of the door skin and then ground off the excess weld and file finished the edge.
