Pertronix ignitor.

Some members might be able to help me install a pertronix ignitor 1761 to my 240Z. I had a go at installing one last year but couldn’t get the car to fire, so just went back to points. I tried installing with just the standard coil and resistor, even though I purchased a flame thrower coil. The red wire connected to the ignition side of the ballast resistor and the black to the negative side of the coil.  I reckon my problem is with the wire that pushes onto the connector on the insulator block on the distributor. It would normally connect directly to the points but there is nothing to connect it to because the pertronix ignitor just has a rubber grommet. Does anyone know where that wire connects?

The other thing that is confusing - I watched a couple of instructional clips, they showed the ignitor being set at 0.030 thou from the centre magnet using a gauge from the kit. My kit had no gauge or instructions about setting the ignitor.

Remove the ballast resistor and join the two connecting wires. Then coil hook up is to the pertronix is simples, hook the black to - and the red to +.

Thanks for your reply Scoota. Have tried + & - without ballast resistor straight to coil. Have tried with ballast resistor with + connected to ignition side of ballast resistor, have tried bypassing resistor, car has not fired once. As soon as I take the distributor out, reconnect points condenser etc and reinstall in car it fires straight away.

I have just sent the ignitor back to Pertronix in the US at my cost - they haven't been very helpful, I certainly wouldn't recommend them!!
