G-Nose ZG Head Light Covers

I was just looking on the site and Wallace (YELLAZED) has just posted some pictures of his nice new V8 Zed that seems to be coming along nicely. He has a picture of the Head Light Covers which I am after. Does anyone know where I can get these or how to contact him? I am hoping he might read this. I have Pm'd him. Not sure if he will see it plus I have tried his email address which is no longer valid. Thanks

Datsun Spirit say they intend to produce a full 5-piece replica ZG kit. You could contact them to enquire about headlight covers.

It might be difficult, but lenses could possibly be produced, but the stainless surround would be nigh on impossible as a DIY. 

I'm imagining a left and right FRP mould taken off original lenses and used as a buck, over which plexiglass, lexan or similar is heated and allowed to drape into the shape. Excess material trimmed off with a dremel. (Sounds easy, doesn't it?)

You could find a black rubber section suitable as a surround instead of the stainless, maybe.

Unfortunately the Japanese contact email address was invalid. So I have hit a dead end yet again. I am thinking this might be easier if I got a hold of Wal's covers and got 5 sets of copies made up. I know a few people want a set and figure 5x$300- I should be able to get someone to make up something very similar. And maybe $200- to go to Wal for lending us the template. What do you reckon?

I went to their shop a few months ago when I was in Yokohama on business and we had a limited english conversation, so you could try a fax, they do not appear to have an email address. Surprisingly they get a lot of their stuff from Motorsport Auto in the US. When I started asking about several item he brought out the Motorsport Auto catelog.

G'day Warren. Well they have a picture of a set on that site. Not sure how much lick I will have with a fax. But I will give it a try. Otherwise if you are heading over there again and dropping in there I would ask if you could get me a set if they have them in stock. I presume they do since they have a picture of them. As long as they don't cost a grand. Ha

In May I sent another e-mail, but had no response. Could be worth contacting them again.

I'd be happy enough to let someone make a mould from mine (being like gold, there would need to be a lot of guarantees!) if it ends up we have to go that way. No need for money, but I'd be keen for a set of the repros, just to have as spares.

As I said, the hardest part would be a stainless surround, but maybe some clever metal artists in our ranks could come up with something.

Thanks heaps guys.

I reckon I will bid on those. If I get them I think I will get some contacts and get another few sets made up locally. Maybe even go into production. Ha Ha. I now have a contact for the plastic glass since I was checking that route yesterday. I will also try that US place and see what they have on offer. I might even end up with a set which will be great. I would paint or powder coat the metal rims Red same as the car to help them blend in with the car more. Especially since I don't have any chrome on my car anymore.

This net working is pretty good. I always seem to get there in the end, but I won't count my chooks till they are in my hot little hand. Will keep you posted.

Thanks for that warren. I didn't put in the 81 so I might give that a try. Although I ended up also getting a contact in the States by Gavin which is for new ones. Pretty expensive. Now all I have to do is work out whether I get used, slightly scratched ones or new ones. I will make a decision today and let Yellazed know.

I am  in the process right now of reproducing G-Nose replacement lens, however at the moment I will not have the surrounds. Hope to have them in the very near future.

Keep us advised Hank. How are you reproducing these? Have you taken a mould? I wasn't overly keen on the headlight surrounds since the stuck out so far. I was sort of thinking the ideal situation would be to mould the lens covers with say 4 one cm plastic lips on them at various angles to slot and secure into the G-nose. This with a nice slim line rubbr might get them to fit on flush. Just an idea I had.

I actually made my moulds more than 10 years ago after breaking my lens. I own and operate a fiberglass and plastics fabrication co. Back in the day I was one of the manufacturers of body parts for Paul Newmans race cars and Bob Sharp Racing. I still have an assortment of tooling for body parts and I am thinking about starting  again. I bought my 240-Z brand new in October 1970.My car is a 71. I still have it. I am going to try to post a picture of my car after I find out how to do it. Maybe you have info on how to do that since you have a picture up. I will keep everyone informed of lens production.

Sounds interesting Hank keep us informed on your progress. I know a few guys who wouldn't mind a set but didn't want to pay $750- or even $350- off ebay. Fo me the jury is out. Where are you based? Since you are in the game you might even be able to make me up a set that clip into the G-Nose itself??
