  1. Thanks Brett for the replies. The pads of different types all lasted the weekends, although initial bite is a worry. I'll try more rear as suggested. Next race is Muscle Car Masters with Brett as the main driver and the old man the co-driver in the 1 hour race. The barkes will be a worry but we should get through the 1 hour at EC with a new set of discs and pads - ahhhhh!!!
  2. Richard, the eligibility guys are very hard on any changes to brakes. I had mine checked at Winton as did all the Zs. One had cross drilled rotors and was told to get them off. Only the standard rotor and caliper are allowed. I've tried several brake pads and found little difference except initial bite. All the pads are destroyed at the end of the weekend, especially the outer pad nearest the wheel. The inner pad has some ventilation from a duct. The outer pad is almost impossible to duct.
  3. Winton was hard on brakes - warped another set of discs - looks like Winton and Wakefield are going to be a two set of discs weekend; the Pantera knew when to block and I chased him all weekend. Race one went astray when I just missed the flag marshal's post at the flip flop and almost bogged the car in the infield, the rest of the races were spent chasing the Pantera. No dents (although a 105 Alfa had a couple of tries as did a flyweight MG till he ran off and got bogged) only a few bits of gravel rash on the lower panel from rubbish on track. Video of the 15 lap race to follow for those interested. The ex Pottsy 260 Z was behind and had a good turn of speed in the straights.
  4. Its OK Jason, the colour is going to be thee same to keep the history going. The paint is to fix the PI Porsche gravel rash and the extra dents collected at Eastern Creek. The photo graphically displays the the brake size and looks frightening. Luckily I did not have time to repaint before EC. I'm getting ready for Winton early next month - despite the brakes and will try to avoid the blue Porsche. Brett's running the car at Mustle Car with the old man as the co-driver so we should see him embarrass the old man by at least 2 seconds.
  5. I discovered after the event that some porkers are known to lift mid corner to balk the guy behind. Doesn't work for me as I wasn't ready and had the peddle flat to the floor.
  6. Jason, forgot to mention my fastest lap was in the last race - tyres buggered. Looks like there might be more in the car if I can get the driver to come good earlier.
  7. Jason, thanks fore the comments re the turn one at EC gear used. The car was 100rpm off the rev limiter at the 50m mark. I gave the brakes a gentle brush and gently trail braked to just short of the apex - trying to save the brakes for turn 2. The car felt like 4th was too low to use here - not too sure though and I will try an a practice day using 4th. Also the front right tyre was shagged all weekend - I actually had to use badly scuffed backs each race and managed to destroy five front right tyres (two ended on canvas). The biggest issue was understeer going in at turn 5 and the old turn 9; the ARDC insist that if all four wheels cross the outside line then a 5 sec penalty applies. The Shelby in front of me earned 35 sec penalty in the last race. The oversteer coming out of 4 and 9 was easy to control and perhaps was a function of a big right foot with a lot of lock on. I played with tyre pressures at the front and what I though were ridiculously low pressures seem to work better, but by the time I worked this out the track temps had dropped and the tyres back and front were very sad. By the way the brake issue is interesting - I warped a set on Friday practice and cracked a set on Saturday. Had to get a little less enthusiastic on Sunday and the brakes held up in the two long races.

    Kidney Wheels

Thanks for the replies guys. I did try to reply to the PM but it must have got lost in the email system. Unfortunately the Historic Commission have limited all Group S Zs to 14x6 wheels. This despite the allowances to Porsches and an Alfa Montreal from SA. Let's hope the recent announcement that Group S cars will be checked for cylinder capacity is real. Expect to see several very fast cars not so fast in the near future. Sorry got off topic and don't mean to start another round of "why can't the dattos have vented brakes wider wheels etc what is is till someone comes up with proof that the HC will accept. Steve

    Kidney Wheels

sorry the 100mm backspace gives too much guard overhang even with a 10mm spacer. I need 80, 85 or 90 mm backspace.

    Kidney Wheels

The photo looks like the wheels I am chasing. The back space of 90 mm or less is important. The dealers fitted sampson engineering wheels and performane had a version as well; although the performance wheels appeared to be 100mm backspace.

The photo looks like the wheels I am chasing. The back space of 90mm or less is important. The original wheels fitted by dealers were Sampson Engineering. I think Performance alos had a similar wheel with 100mm backspace.
