  1. FYI, 240K coupe on ebay Starting bid: $2,000 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DATSUN-240K-COUPE-RESTORATION-PROJECT-/272224166595?hash=item3f61d322c3:g:P3UAAOSwYmZXHvlL
  2. FYI, I just talked to the chap with the 260z swapped rb30. He is asking for 18K. Car is registered in WA but he's in Vic now.
  3. Any body know a good approved engineer in or around melbourne? - by good I mean a more lenient on rules etc? I contacted a couple engineers and some quoted upwards of 3500 for examination and inspection because they have a huge list of tests to go through. they mentioned renting a portion of a track for half a day to do handling and brake tests. any body else go through this sort of ordeal when getting their car engineered? george
  4. Yes. There are no rotary specialist in hk, any major engine work sometimes requires shipping the engine back to Japan. I've had at least 3 or 4 friend who are mechanics or dealers warn against getting the rx7. Recommend mr2 turbo another fun alternative. But the shape of the FD is still so elegant. Are prices for na1 nsx also sky rocketing?
  5. Guess it really depends on how well the car was maintained by the owner. HK heat and humidity is really bad for the interiors and electricals esp if the car is constantly parked outdoors and uncovered, which is common since its much cheaper. Anyways, anybody into rotaries? There's a mint condition fd rx7 selling for a reasonable price, but heard they are difficult to maintain.
  6. Yes, the import tax rises every year. For example, a 2 years ago on an decent R32 gtr it would be around 3k AUD, one of my friends just imported one cause the yen was down earlier this year but the tax had shot up to around 7k to 8k AUD. And a NA1 nsx base type, had tax of 7k AUD last year, this year is 15k AUD. They base the tax value of recent transactions of that model in the local HK market rather than the condition! To further worsen the problem, there is not enough affordable parking space. So if you have a few cars, then just parking them somewhere adds up quite a bit.
  7. I've seen their cars. I believe the blue one is sold. Unfortunately, the white jdm s30 is out of my budget.
  8. No worries, my friends are only interested in the latest hybrid or electric cars to and calculating $$ of gas per km. No appreciation for classics, and other car friends are more interested in civics or ae86 corollas. Anyways, I see a lot of cars without registration, engineering cert and road worthy certs being sold here. How easy is it to get the the road worthy cert and engineering cert? Could I just buy a (decent) car and have a body shop get rid of all the rust and a mechanic to do the rest and have all the paper work done? Then I'd have to find someone to help me ship it over. As I'm not in Aus I can imagine it being a logistical nightmare. I almost fell for a scam on trovit or gum tree. The guy picture of a very well restored 240z selling for about 30k. Too good to be true, but then he said he was a military guy soon going abroad and that the car was at his base but I'd have to send him my address and bank details and then he would DHL the car over. Anyways, turns out a lot of people buying cars have had similar scams.
  9. I have never seen a 240z being driven around on the streets. I know there are at least 2 or 3 that will show up at car meets or shows once on a while. I'm sure there are a few others which are garaged which is unfortunate. Been looking at Japan for 240z as well, but the prices for a car waiting to be restored is just far too much. Add on the import tax of about 15 to 20k AUD, not many classics in HK, let alone 240z.
  10. Hi all, Just new to the forum, but been looking for a few years to import a 240z to hong kong! Currently driving an S15 silvia, but my dream car is the 240z with a turbo engine! Hope I can find something here! George
