Datsun260z replied to Datsun260z's topic in Interior
Hi guys although this has gotten the better of me I know I am not the only one here totally stumped by this problem so I am posting pic of my steering column internals in case this helps in anyway.Once again my profound thanks to the awesome Mr Camo for his patient and gracious help here....As can be seen the spring arm on the 260 appears to be attatched to opposite position of 240 spring arm -

Okay-after seeing your link Mr C . of the exploded view it seems I was remiss in my initial question put to this forum of-"does anyone know if the 240z steering wheel will fit the 260z" when I SHOULD have asked- Will the 240z steering wheel fit the 260z ..AND .. will the horn activator be compatible. Well in fairness - the first question was answered correctly, but the horn is the oversight here as they are completely different and totally uncompatible and would require additional parts or scratchbuilt replacement of required parts to do job. I've decided to give up on this idea , firstly I dont have the mechanical know how to go any further and secondly I need the car for Christmas Day so its back with the sports wheel and an end to this stress ! Thanks for your help Mr C - hope you have a great Christmas !! -

And my thanks too Mr Camo-appreciate your assistance here-seems like this is a tricky question at best . Anyhow-when I disconnected black wire horn stopped but after I attatched wheel nut and later turned wheel it sounded again,so back to square A[url=http://s21.p -

okay -disconnected black wire and managed to seat wheel on spline without horn sounding but of course end result is i now dont have ability to use horn at all. Think I will just put sports wheel back on and be done with ito obviously (although I was advised otherwise on this forum) this wheel does not suit the 260 -

I appreciate the link and I actually did read it prior to this question but it is of no help as this seems to be a different problem. My horn contact is actually same as last pic in link so this is not the issue.I notice though a spring is mentioned-does this sit behind wheel to prevent immediate contact ? -
Hello and seasons greetings to all.. Having a slight problem in fitting a 240z steering wheel to my 260z and would greatly appreciate any advice thanks. After removing aftermarket wheel/boss kit and then putting 240 wheel on spline - the moment it contacted column internals horn goes off? I dont understand why as not applying any pressure or having yet even tightened spline /column steering nut. Is there some difference in 240z and 260z setup here or am I doing something wrong

Thankyou PeterAllen-appreciate the compliment , and also that you and ScootaG know exactly what I am talking about here ! Lets face it-the 240Z and 260Z 2+2 are 2 very different cars and all I am saying is instead of insisting one is far superior to the other they both need to be seen and appreciated for what they are individually - that's all. Once again -dont get me wrong - I love the 240Z but think the longer wheelbase 260 2+2 is also just as worthy of the same adoration for its own appeal. -
[/img]Judging from these forum posts I get the distinct impression 2+2 is almost a dirty word here .. I personally think these are beautiful cars and shouldn't rate 2nd to the 240z for whatever reasons perceived. Here's my 260z 2+2 running (god forbid) wire wheels which appear to be another subject of derision/disdain. I can honestly say my car turns heads where ever it goes and regularly receives compliments on its wheels so there is a lotta love out there for the 2 +2 ! Not trying to run down the 240z as they are also an awesome car but just want to see the 2+2 appreciated on its own merit.[/img]

Hi guys- I really like the classic look of the woodgrain 240z steering wheel was considering purchasing one to have fitted to my 75 260z 2+2 Can anyone tell me if this will this be a straight swap or not ?
-
Hi Pauly-yes the wire wheels do look like the pic you posted-are they on your z ? Hey Alan-glad to help you out and thanks for your pic of wheels as I agree - I think they look great (but I guess we're the minority) Anyhow-we're all different and I can appreciate alternative choices based on the look that owner is wanting to acheive.

Hi Mike-checked out their site and unfortunately just a little too cost prohibitive on my budget

Hi Alan-the seller is based in UK and user name is missfunky2010 caps are described in listing as plain ,flat, alloy . Cheers

Hi Guys and thanks for your help.I have checked wheels and Dunlop emblem is stamped in rear along with various serial /production numbers. Opening is 55mm.. I have found a vast assortment of end caps available and they are really quite inexpensive. I think a set with 60mm width tabs would be wise as the 55mm opening extends down to around 4mm then opening is slightly wider and continues tapering down to 65mm opening at rear.
-
Thanks - appreciate your opinions and pardon my ignorance. I just checked out the wheels and they are Dunlop - Made in England (is that good or worse ?)

Hi all-just hoping someone has a set of factory wire wheel centre caps for sale.. I'm sure this is not going to be an easy item to find but any help will be much appreciated. If originals are out of the question can anyone tell me if there is a suitable alternative available ? I'm not overjoyed with the General Lee look of my hurricane rims and would like to change to wire wheels asap but really need caps to finish off. Need to fit 55mm opening so looks to be quite unique compared to centre caps I have found on ebay so far.

HI Al-Thanks for the info-yes it is running Hitachi carbs and it does have a choke but idling with choke is very poor so may need adjustment or maybe its just my mindset needs to adjust to the choke? On the upside no problem at all with warm start up. -

Hi Zedman- mirrors came with the car (and they are very limited in their positioning/adjustment),although they do look very era correct- which is why I will probably keep them. Must admit though I am a little partial to fender mounted mirrors and am giving that look some serious consideration-what do you guys think ? -

Hello to all on the forum its great to finally join the group after lurking for the past few months. I recently bought a beautiful 75 ,260z 2+2 and am truly amazed at the huge following these cars have! I think we really took Japanese ingenuity for granted in the 70's and there are definitely a lot of older converts "coming out" as they realise what incredible cars these and (dare I say-Celica's) were back in their day. I can honestly say this is the most comfortable car I have ever driven/owned. The only problem I have is cold starting- especially after a few days as she was bought as a weekend car..In order to start I find you need to pump the accelerator about 40 times and still requires at least 3 attempts to start :-\ Also wondering if it is possible to access complete past history of my car from its first registration in '75 as it would be great to have a record of its past ?? Anyhow- definitely have more questions and look forward to hearing from you guys...Regards-Wayne
