  1. Ok- got them- both are a bit rough- but fixable. Both have n42 heads. both autos Some prev owner has started cutting rust and removing panels of both cars. both need new windscreens(1 cracked ,1 gone) Im not 100% certain but it looks like the hardtop has a newish stainless exhaust with a cannon type muffler, its welded on just after the manifold. both have the standard s1 wheels- most if not all the "z" caps are still on. (btw I do have some of the nice s2 wheels if anyone wants them.) The targa's rad is out and has been recoed(looks good as new). Both have have some plumbing/leads off the motors and they dont have batteries so the motor status is unknow at this time(will fiddle later). There is boxes of parts. The targa top is a '81- $600 THe hardtop is a '79 $600 Both $1000 If I dont sell them quickly- ill part out one-fix the other. I will post pics when I get batteries for my camera.
  2. I'll will suss it out this weekend- and post here. Prob sat nite/sun morning I want to see how complete they are before I give quotes. I will post pics of the rad then too.
  3. hi all, I'm getting 2 280zx's this weekend- I think they are both autos and series 1's but ive have to check. One is a t-top and the other hard.-Presume n42's Both cars have some rust issues and the prev owner has started to cut these bit out, -both are fixable though. I was going to wreck one(prob the hardtop) and keep a few bits, rear brakes . master cyl etc and sell the rest. But if anyone wants the whole car I wont wreck. There are some extra parts- like a new or reco-ed rad. Im near Toowoomba QLD. Ill post here with more details(and pics) and prices on the weekend. Post any Q's here. thanks guys
  4. I thought standard zeds rear are nearly 1 degree positive(like 50 min pos), So I was wanting to get to about 2 degree neg, which should mean the strut top center being moved in by approx 12-18mm- depending on what extra I gain by lowering . I want this kind of camber on the fronts as well. Is there a cheaper way to do a pivoting type top? Will a moded s13 coilover top work? I suppose the thread/shaft would be different in the pivot.
  5. Im look at doing a coilover conversion on my 240z. Grinding off the spring platforms and either using noltec (about $300 pair- mild steel) threaded sleeves , or cheaper alloy ones. Its a street car so prob use 10 inch 250lb springs all round and tokico adj inserts-that should be a lot stiffer then standard but not too hard. thats if the au to us dollar improves soon anyway. Depending on cash amount maybe even sectioning both front and rear with mr2 inserts. I want the rear to have some negitive camber, to help with the tyre and guard clearance and to help the handling. SO--- I was going to use the standard strut top , pull the guts out of it, weld a plate on the bottom of it, then drill a hold thru this plate at the new position for the strut, then weld on the bottom of this new plate a short piece of 2.5in pipe-centered to the new hole- to hold the coilover spring. Problems with this are 1) solid strut mount are noisey? because of no rubber insulation. 2)Should the top hole and spring guide be on a "ball" type mount ,to allow for the new angle of the strut? Could this damage the insert? I know- I should just get adj premade strut tops ,but they are a bit costly and Im not a racer so its hard to justify. Ideas and thoughts guys? scott
  6. +1 Yes a guide would be great! Thankyou
  7. are those struts shortened?
  8. thanks Rev. After a week or so of driving it is rubbing a bit on the back outside lip. If I lower this car its going to need heaps more clearance (10mm approx) So my options are.. 1) Do rear coilover conversion and redrill the strut top inbound giving negative camber (10-15 mm at the top would be about 2 neg at the wheel--i hope) and this should give enough. Its a pity adjustable strut tops are so expensive. 2) Do rear coilover conversion and machine 10mm off the mounting surface from the inside of my wheel(cutting my new wheel- arrhh) 3)combo of both of the above any other ideas guys? Looks like Ill be driving like granddad until i get this sorted.
  9. I got them to fit! The 260z front struts spring platform was about 20mm lower ,so it fits - just. With the back I cut a some of the lip away, and so far it seems ok So 17 X 8.5 +4 offset Rota RBs with 235 45 tyres can fit a nonflared early 240z. but using 260z front struts and lipping/cuting the rear lip.. I also had to trim the front valance(i think thats what it is called- the bit that bolts onto the guard, that has the front indicator on it) as the tyre hit it at half lock- both sides. But they look so good on the car it was all worth it.. Ill post some pics when i get time. thanks for the advice on this guys.
  10. thanks Nzeder.. you have got me thinking--ive downloaded the dba book printed it and looking at what can be made fit. the s13 silvia 280mm(280 X49 hat X 22 thick) rotor is attractive as there is a big aftermarket scene with those cars so nice drilled/slotted ones seem to be cheap. Ill need to go to 260z struts first but thats no big deal. Also depend on what the machining is worth also i guess-cant be too bad i hope. wait.. if running a 22mm ish rotor with hilux caliper , whats the ideal hat height for the 240z hub and 260z hub?
  11. hi, Im still having issues fitting my new rota wheels as the fronts hit the spring platform but I had a idea does anyone know if the 260z strut offsets the wheel more outbound then the 240z one? The 260z brake rotor has a smaller hat(by 8.5mm), so im hoping it will work. Does the 260z strut bolt up into a 240z? btw I tried just a 260z hub on the 240z strut an that did not help the offset so it must be in the strut itself. thanks guys
  12. nope --bashing the platform and grinding the spring didnt give enough. I got a 240K hub and that pushed it out enough but ive only got 1. I dont know how others got this wheel to fit so easy.
  13. thanks-- ill try, but it is hard against it..and the spring is tight in the platform..maybe it will give enough I suppose i could grind a bit of the bottom coil of the spring away and then tap the platform into the flattened area. lol whenever something doesnt fit/work why it is always the grinder and the hammer? failing that--coilovers(yay) or a spacer(yuk) i guess
  14. grrrrr-- now the fronts are hitting.... The wheel actually touches the spring platform damit do the 260z struts have a lower platform?
  15. I paid yesterday lunch time and the wheels arrived mid afternoon today- and Im in Toowoomba QLD. Very good service-- thanks ben-- Ive got the backs on with tyres already- looks great-- but will require some guard rolling. Those superlight alloy wheel nuts are cool.
  16. Hi, ive got my new beautiful wheels -rota rbs 17 X8.5- and they look awesome. Ive only got the backs on so far. But with 235-45 tyres its really pushing the limit. On my first run the guard shaved a tiny piece of rubber off a new tyre. So--- guard rolling? Or trim anglegrinder? I was going to trim as some guy did on the zhybrid forum BUT after having a look it seems that the rear guard is two sheets of metal joined along the lip so if i cut most of the rear lip off there will be a gap and weakening it alot. Guard rolling may stuff up the paint around the guard from the flex. Any thoughts/ideas guys?
  17. mine are paid for and on the way. I'm very stoked thanks ben ill post some pics when they are on the 240z
  18. xrqtr- let me know how your dealings with kim go.. Im a bit scared off by the US/AU dollar right now BUT im still keen.
  19. 150rwhp! That a great result- Ive read about big cam l28(bored to 2.9) flattop motors only getting 160 with triples. Will be great to see what it will do with the mikini's. Was the porting extensive or just a clean up? With the standard block and no turbo it makes rego and insurance less stressful. If you have the dyno chart post it up as Id like to see the curve. good work
  20. Has anyone heard anything about Benzed's wheels?
  21. US dollar now at $1.38au --- Why did I not buy earlier...groan That $940 is now about $1300au. Dunno if I should wait or buy now.
  22. Quotes for rbr 17 X 8.5 +4 in silver or shadow. inc delivery to Toowoomba QLD. 18racing $1000 US LSDMotorSPORT $940 US NZEDER: I have sent a message to him awhile ago, but he must be away as I havnt heard anything yet. I thought he only had RBs? Id would prefer a Australian supplier but it depends on availability.
  23. Hi guys, is there a Australian source for the adapter plate to fit the 84 nonturbo 300zx rotors to 240z hub? There is a couple of sources in the US , but id prefer to buy here. see at: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=104735 THis would be easier then the s13 swap wouldnt it? thanks
  24. Was that Kim Bong?? That my contact at 18Racing..... btw - Australia dollar VS US , isnt so hot right now....damn
