What luggage straps? What baby capsule? What child restraint? The story goes that dad had to stop suddenly on the way home and I slid all the way from the basket in the back through to the passenger footwell in the front and landed on my head! I've never been quite right ever since... Somewhere I have a photo of dad crouching in front of his orange zed with me in the wicker basket in the driveway. Dad is kitted up in full 70's regalia including shorts with long white socks and moustache! -

She's a keeper - not for sale - it will be on my website for marketing and tax reasons only. These cars are very tightly held in Japan so it makes no real business sense - I bought it because I love these old Dattos - I reckon they made some of the best cars in the world in this era. My dad was a Datsun dealer for a very short time in the 60's and I was karted home from hospital in the back of a 240Z in a wicker basket in 1971....! My 1st car was a 240Z. My dad owned a Toyota 2000GT which he sold in 1977 for $12000 (Deposit on a house!)... so I like these old cars. -

The plan is to keep it for club drives, track days and just drive it to work a few days a week... I bought it as a replacement for a special Zed I just sold. I am hoping it's as quick as the old Zed which was about 180HP at the treads. I have heard this is a lighter car.... I would love to have a Nostalgic Japanese track day @ Wakefield Park... a friend is planning to book the track in May - he usually brings his Euro/Italian car mates with some very quick old Fiats, Ferraris, Lancias etc - they are a bit Euro-snobby so it's alot of fun to rub their noses in a clean pair of old Japanese heals! Any takers? -

Very excited - 4 weeks..... something to look forward to... -
Owning a Hakosuka has been on my Bucket List for a long time.... so when a friend rang me from a Kobe auction describing a mint 1972 GT-R clone with a hot stroker L28 I could not resist... She's now heading to Sydney - I hope it turns out to be as good as it looks in the video - fingers crossed! Cheers Phil

The NSW Ferrari Club changed their more recent track day invitations to "European cars only" after a few of their more expensive toys were "outsquirted" around the paddock... but fun days!

Too young - very sad - Nice young guy - I met him last year by chance with a random thumbs up driving around Hunters Hill in our Zeds.... we went for drive together in my car .... How did he die?

"From Peacok to feather-duster" - a lovely Zed is lost
doudous replied to doudous's topic in General Discussions
Thanks for the feedback guys- you are all very helpful. Its hard to walk away from such a lovely car. A friend of mine might buy it and send it to Japan to be rebuilt or used for parts over there... I will see if the insurance company will be more reasonable... cheers Phil. Did I see someone on this forum recently with a front damaged 240Z race-car??? Perhaps the 2 cars could be used to make 1??? -

Is it worth buying the car back from the insurance company for $4K? Cheers Phil -

I don't think it's repairable economically - it would need a rear cut and alot of work... the whole shell has been bent in the impact - the doors wont open and close, the floor in the boot is bent... I think I could probably buy the car back from the insurance company for parts.... However I think the laws have recently changed to the effect that if a car is written off by an insurance company it can no longer be repaired and re-registered. It was interesting to see that where all the metal bent and the paint cracked open that there was no bog or filler anywhere in the car - all original steel. If there is a donor car out there - I think this car would need to take the identity of the donor car. -

Luckily I am insured, but hello premium hike next year and goodbye $3000 excess... I guess the insurance company will chase the guy for the money... -

I am a lurker on your forum and generally keep a low profile - ...but had to share this tragedy with some fellow Zed lovers.... I have been patiently getting this Zed ready for a client for the last 2 months - it was finally ready - she had never looked so good - I made a video of the car the day she was to go to her new home.... later that night I was driving home with my son and was rammed from behind by an uninsured electrician half-way up the Gladesville bridge... Luckily no-one was hurt... but it's so sad when a beautifully preserved classic car is destroyed... Before: After: Cheers Phil -
Bloody dodgy car dealers - they are all scumbags and arseholes... !

Mystery 1972 Skyline. What is it? What's it worth?
doudous replied to doudous's topic in General Discussions
Thanks for the ad mate - you are a tool. It's not why I am on the forum. Idiots like you make it too hard. I am sure you are in a large and impressive office. Carsales.com, drive.com, ebay, trading post do not have a Nissan Fairlady Z designation hence 260Z. It hasn't "all been been so unpleasant" - just you have been unpleasant. Get a life, grow up, recover from short man syndrome. My cars are for sale. So what? I am not advertising them here - I am on this forum as an enthusiast not as a dealer or advertiser. But you are right... it is the wrong place for a car dealer such as myself. i will not be making any more posts -

HS30-H - You are such a smart guy - you seem to know it all. I do not, and I do not pretend to. I do not pretend to offer my services as an expert in early model skylines... far from it. You can get a historian to offer that service. To source one for you, inspect it for you, check it for damage and rust and research it for you- it's not rocket science. If there is something I do not know about a car I will tell you "I do not know"... Most cars I buy on a daily basis I do know a great deal about - please feel free to test me on these cars... if it's important to you. In the interest of gaining more knowledge about a product I would like to import and sell I have made a post, cap in hand asking more informed people than myself to share their knowledge. Thus far this forum has been a terrific source of information from friendly, helpful people with a common interest until you stuck your 2 cents in - which has contributed nothing to the other members of the forum and been rather unpleasant. If you havn't got something to add to the topic of this thread - bugger off! Please be factual if you must be so unpleasent. I have never offered my services to anyone on this forum. I have mentioned this to you more than once now. I think if we were in the pub having the same conversation over a beer with the same lovely crowd gathered discussing early Skylines, your tone would be somewhat different... Easy to be a bully when you are safely at home in your bedroom. What does a bully gain from being a bully? -

GTR 1972 -
I tried to buy an interesting Skyline today but was not quite sure what the car was... I think it is a base model GX Skyline Coupe 4 cylinder, 4 speed, 1.8 litre with rear leaf springs as opposed to a GTR with 2.0 litre twin cam, independant rear end and rear fender flares. ... Here is a picture and auction sheet. and a pic and sheet of a similar GTR (These are off the dial expensive in Japan) Who can shed some light on the differences in the cars and the difference in value. I think it would be a nice car to plonk an RB into..... What do you think?

In the 90's when the Japanese economy was booming Japanese dealers used to come to Australia buying Zeds. I had a Jap dealer come to inspect my Tan 1971 240Z .... He rejected it because of the aftermarket vinyl sunroof and that it had been changed from an auto - He had bought 5 Zeds on his trip! Also in Japan there are many LHD Zeds that were re- imported back to Japan from the US in that same boom time!

The 71 Orange Zed is always in lane Cove and gets used at least 2 or 3 times a week... Call me if you want to go for a cruise and a coffee!

What advertisement? What advertorial? As I said I have posted here as an owner and an enthusiast only. I have met a couple of good blokes through this forum and went on a Zed drive in Sydney arranged through this forum. It was a fun and light-hearted get together of people with a positive mutual interest- unlike your post. You are making me feel very unwelcome.... A bit like walking into the wrong bar room "Members Only!" Like I said if you want me to exit the forum - just ask - I will leave straight away. Or perhaps you just want to be a bully? If you are so curious all you have to do is give me a call and I can give you any info you want about a particular car including the 432 that was recently sold through auction at USS Tokyo. Here is the auction sheet if you feel it is so important to know more about that particular car: http://www2.zhome.com:81/History/432Z.htm

Very agro tone HS30-H... I usually avoid forums because Dealers are very easy targets. I am on this forum not as a dealer or to promote my services, but because I am passionate about old zed cars and own a couple of nice ones too... avoid me - I couldn't care less. If you would rather I did not participate in your forum, simply ask me to exit and I will do so immediately. I have been advertising cars available in Japan that I can source for many years... no complaints so far and it works for me and my clients. The 432 was a rare car that came up at auction and sold very cheap (the price was shown in the ad). If the ad aroused your curiosity then it achieved its goal and you can ring me for more information if you are interested... Every week I see very interesting old Japanese cars like this up for sale and I think there is definately a market here in Australia for these fantastic machines. Yamaha designed head? I thought this was the case - same designers that made the head for the Toyota 2000GT... If I am wrong I stand corrected. I am sure there are many educated heads on this forum that could shed some more specific light on the design origins of this engine...

It's a keeper - but being a car dealer I can't help feeling out the market - I think all you guys have very good investments because the Aussie Zed car market is way behind the rest of the world. Something tells me it's on the verge of having a big catchup and prices will shoot up for good cars...
-
Geez - you guys are good detectives! - Especially Toecutter - I just bought the red car in Tokyo last week - and I'm very exited about getting it - my Japanese Dream Car! It will be here in a few weeks - by the description from my friend who found the car it is a sensational machine... Here is a video of the car before shipping from Tokyo: There are some amazing Zeds over there, but good ones are not cheap! Many are rusty... The 4-3-2 was a car that popped up at auction a few weeks ago and seemed to be in OK condition. We can source many interesting ZEDS over there - but usually not for those on a tight budget unless it's an 80s or 90s Zed - these are cheap in Japan and really nice ones can be found... This will be my 3rd S30 Zed. I still have the orange 1971 model... can't part with it - kinda sentimental! My dad was a Nissan dealer many years ago and mum and dad drove me home from hosptital in an identical orange 240Z in 1971... Apparently they tossed me on the back shelf in a basket and I ended up in the footwell when dad hit the brakes....it must have effected me! Then my 1st car was a tan coloured 1971 240Z that my dad had sold to the original owners 20 years earlier... the same people came back and traded it in all thoses years later. I had been saving up for my 1st car and dad had promised to match my savings dollar for dollar... when I saw that beautiful tan machine it had to be mine!!!!
