Hey - it's great to see another New Zealander on the forums! I've lived over here in Melbourne for the last 4 years. I went for the Skyline fuse box for all the interior circuits - this also accommodates a number of relays for Igntion, ACC power, engine start button and some lighting. As you mentioned, going to a modern fuse box means you can use blade fuses. I've included a pic of where it's mounted in the car. The white connector beside it allows all of the circuits which go through the firewall or to the rear of the car to be disconnected when removing the instrument panel/dash. In the engine bay I'm using a power distribution box from a S13 180sx - it provides a number of relays and fuses for the engine circuits - fuel pump, fan, headlamps, horn etc. Here's some pictures of it: The ECU relay is mounted beside the ECU which is fitted to the passenger side kick panel. I've also got the battery mounted in the boot. As I got the halfcut I got most of the wiring so was able to keep it all colour coded to reflect the Nissan design. I did get some information from Hybridz and some schematics from the internet - but also worked through the factory harness and made my own solution. The R33/R34 models are still pretty much all hardwired so it's possible to do this relatively easily. Most vehicles (including Nissan) built after this are more challenging as you get into the issues of CAN buses and immobilisation that is distributed among a number of modules in the vehicle. This only applies if you are looking to retain the factory engine management.

Thanks for the comments guys. I ended up going with the axles from Stewart Wilkins - they use Z31 Turbo CV joints. They're not cheap - but they should hold up to the power I plan to put through them. I thought long and hard about this...but I did end up selling the engine to Dimitri. I don't really have the space to store all the original running gear. The car was originally an auto, and I still have the transmission but that will be heading to scrap dealers soon. I did consider completing the work of Sulio and Nate and restore it to original - but I couldn't resist modifying! The speedo and tacho are from the R33 Skyline instrument cluster. I saw a couple of the guys in the US (on HybridZ forums) complete this conversion and thought it was a great idea. The Skyline gauge cluster can be dismantled and the gauge faces can be modified so that they fit perfectly within the 240z gauge pods. The Skyline gauges are electronically controlled stepper motor gauges and interface to all the standard speed and rpm sensors. The speedo can be calibrated via internal resistors to suit the diff ratio and wheel size. I've completely rewired the whole car and updated it to a modern electrical architecture. Here are a couple more pics of the gauges:

Thanks Dimitri - I would be interested in the brake pedal. Looking at the brake pedal in my car (which was auto), I think I could make that work for the clutch with some modification. I'll send you a PM to organise a suitable time to pickup. Thanks, Craig

Hi all, It's been a while since I updated this project thread, so I thought would include some pics of the car's current state. It's not too far away from being driveable - the engine is in and running and all the drivetrain is complete. You may also notice a number of parts from Dimitri's car - I purchased his suspension, front brakes and Simmons wheels. The next jobs are to complete the exhaust, change to a greddy front facing plenum, replace the LHS floor panel due to rust, front and rear sway bars and then get a rollcage, seats and belts. Here are some pics of it: Craig

Thanks for the offer to pickup! I also checked eBay earlier today and the auction had finished. When I first saw it yesterday there were a couple of bids so it must of sold. I might try and modify another pedal I have to make it work.

Thanks - I saw the pedal box on eBay, but it's in Brisbane and will only allow pickup only.

240z clutch pedal wanted - I'm in Melbourne but would be willing to pay for postage if required. Thanks, Craig.

Hi Pauly, Did you have any luck with finding info on the part numbers or availability? Thanks, Craig.
-
Thanks - I'll get in contact with him to see if he has any stock remaining. Nissan had quoted $170 for each side.

Hi all, I'm trying to source an inner tie rod / rack end for my 240z. I've had confirmation that Nissan Japan no longer stock these parts, so I'm interested to see if anyone on the forum has attempted to source one from an aftermarket source. Alternatively, is there anything from another Nissan/Datsun (or other OEM) that serves as a suitable replacement? Thanks, Craig

Thanks for the advice Dimitri. I need to remove the nut because I'm changing the stub axle flange to suit CV axles.

I'm looking for some advice on removing the bearing lock nuts on the rear stub axles of a 240z/260z. I realise that it will take some leverage to get them off, but I'm interested in people's experience with attempting to remove the crimp on the nut and any resulting damage to the axle. I have read that some people advise not to touch the crimp at all and just begin to loosen the nut. I am planning to use new nuts so I don't mind damaging the nut, but obviously I don't want to damage the axle. Thanks, Craig

Thanks - I've sent you a message to sort out the details.

Hi all, I'm looking for a R200 moustache bar from a 260Z. Thanks, Craig

I have a set of front 4 pot calipers from a R33 Skyline GTS-t for sale. These would serve as a great upgrade for any Z. As with the other late model Nissan calipers, the mounting bolt spacing is 100mm - so they will require an adapter bracket. The discs are also included, although they are 5 stud. Price: $250 I'm based in Melbourne and would prefer local pickup only. Thanks, Craig.

Hi, Would you be interested in selling the front adjustable lower control arms separately? Thanks

Hi all, I've got an auto transmission that I removed from my 1973 240Z which is free to anyone that would like to take it away (Northern Suburbs, Melbourne). I only used it to drive in and out of the garage a couple of times before I removed the engine/trans, but it worked fine. I thought I would offer it to anyone here before I take it to the rubbish tip. If anyone's interested, or would like to see a picture, send me a message. Thanks, Craig

Hi all, I'm selling some parts from my 240z on eBay - here's the links if anyone is interested: Twin Hitachi carbs and manifold http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=120313205179 Radiator http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=120313204108 Automatic Transmission http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=120313203880 Extractors http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=120313203758

Thanks for the info - it definitely helps. I've fitted an RB25DET into my 240 - I think you may have actually came and looked at the car earlier this year (out in Greenvale). Send me a PM with an offer if you're interested in the L24....I'm not looking for a huge amount. I guess I have a rough idea of value based on other datsun parts I've dealt with in the past - but send me a PM and we can work something out.

Hi guys, I’m relatively new to the 240z and L series scene – so I’m looking for some info on rough prices for some parts I’m planning to sell from my 240z. I’m currently in the midst of an engine conversion, so the plan is to sell the majority of the parts I’ve removed from the car – I’ve attached a couple of pics of all the stuff. I guess the main thing I would be interested in finding a rough price on is the L24 (running before removed from the car) and the carbs. So any advice on prices would be greatly appreciated – and if anyone’s interested in any of the parts pictured let me know. Thanks, Craig

No worries - I'll send you a message to organise a suitable time. Thanks - I learnt alot during the build of my SR20 1600, so I have a very clear plan for this car as well.

Hi all, I've made some progress on my 240Z project and I thought I would begin a topic with some pictures and info on its current state. I originally purchased the car from Nate late last year, and I've included a couple of pics of how it looked then. I’ve since removed the original running gear from the car and purchased an R33 Series 2 RB25DET halfcut. I've recently got the engine and gearbox mounted in the car as pictured below (still to fabricate the gearbox mount). I’m hoping to have the engine running in the car soon in stock trim, then I’ll focus on completing the suspension and brakes. Luckily a set of front brakes came with the halfcut so they will make their way on to the Z as well. Cheers, Craig

I’m converting my auto 240z to manual and require a clutch pedal along with all the parts to fit it to the pedal/steering column support bracket (bushes, sleeve, bolt and spring etc) If anyone has parts they are willing to sell please let me know. I’m in Melbourne. Craig.

Hi all, Does anyone know of a place in Melbourne that can replace the rubber in engine mounts?
-
Thanks for the info guys. I'm interested in talking to an engineer here in Melbourne to get the latest information. I've downloaded the list of engineers that are able to issue Approval Certificates and was wondering if anyone had experience in dealing with a particular engineer for this line of modification. From my experience in NZ, there were a number of engineers that did not look favourably upon modified japanese cars and made it a bit more difficult that it should of been. I guess many of them had more interest for the hot rod/V8 side of things. This whole process can become quite time/money consuming so I would be interested to hear if anyone can suggest someone good to deal with.
