  1. I'm in the Hills District so Hornsby isn't far. I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the tip silverz.
  2. Thanks Warren, PO has several 240Z so I'd hope they'd know not to over tighten it. I'll try the local wreckers over the Easter long weekend if they're open. Didn't realise it was just an R180 (new to Zeds despite having this one sitting in the garage for the last 16 months). Car passed inspection with no issues at all so has a blue slip, picked up the green slip today. Off to the RTA tomorrow morning to register her
  3. Hi all, After having my 240Z sit around untouched (other things keep coming up) for almost 18 months I decided I'd at least get her registered and drive her as is for a while. So got her going etc and dropped her at a mates workshop for a full going over for anything I missed prior to going for blue slip and to do a full fluid change as it's much easier on a hoist than me doing it all in the driveway. Anyway we couldn't get the diff plug out without butchering it a bit (guess it hasn't been out in a while). I'd like to replace it so does anyone know where to get a new/used plug or what plug from another diff would fit? She's a '73 complied, '72 built 240Z and I assume the diff is the original. Has a much larger plug than any other car I've had if that helps but didn't think to measure it. Thanks.
  4. The MX5 was sold a few years ago. Great car but 9 years with the same car was enough. Had a 350Z after that which is a nice GT but was too slow and didn't handle well enough for my liking (especially coming from the MX-5). After the 350Z I didn't know what I wanted so drove a Charade around for a year or so while looking at Lotus 7 style Clubmans and some other options before finally deciding it would be the 240Z. I have a MY06 Forester as a daily now and the Zed, whenever it's finished (which first requires starting) will be a weekend and track day car.
  5. Yes approx but there's other options as well. You can't supercharge or turbo however. There's different calaculations for allowed capacity of FI Vs NA engines.
  6. As Vindicare posted above 4.2 is the max legal in NSW currently (actually it's somewhere between 4.1 and 4.2 but I don't have the exact figure with me). I spoke to an engineer late last year about a V8 conversion. Reason I'm looking at a V8 is simply that I want one. I've had 3s, 4s and 6s, turbos and supercharged but never had an 8. I figure this will be the last car I build up and I'm not interested in Falcadores which is the only other way I could afford a V8 (budget doesn't strech to exotics). Really have to get my project moving again The poor Zed has been sitting untouched since Xmas.
  7. Mania are great, I'd recommend them. Last time I looked though I thought they were $400 so $250 is a bargain.
  8. Thanks. I think the 1.8 NA had a slightly different ratio and the later 1.8 is a slightly different rack.
  9. I plan on doing the same conversion at some point. Can you confirm that the rack used is from an early NA MX-5 (the 1.6)?
  10. It's OK. I called them yesterday afternoon, it's direct from them.
  11. Is this pricing from DBA directly or via their distribution chain?
  12. Well my project has barely progressed past the buying the car stage but my plan is simply to take a portion of my pay each month (hopefully $500 on average) and put it towards the car. That could mean spending it right away or it could mean putting it aside for a few months until I have a larger amount for larger purchases. My project doesn't have a timeline and I'm fortunate enough that I'm single, don't have kids, no mortgage or rent, have a well paying job, a small but decently equipied workshop and am OK with my hands and willing to try.
  13. It'd only be a temporary measure for me until the car is ready for paint so I'm not too worried if it does lose some gloss. I also work for the company so the price is hard to beat
  14. Might have to give this a go as a temporary paint job while my car is in the build process to stop rust as I work on different areas. If I get a chance over the next week or so I'll paint some scrap with White Knight Rust Guard Epoxy Enamel (hmm, Marine Blue looks good) and sand it back and see how it looks gloss wise. I'll post pics if I get it done.
  15. Given alternatives like this: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/SEL102/33-1243 I can't say I'm surprised.

    2jz in 260z?

You could still be right about it being any plated vehicle (one of the reasons I tried so hard to get an earlier car) and I'll certainly confirm again before comitting my hard earned $$$ but this is going to take me at least a year and a half so I have plenty of time (but is also the reason I'm looking at the laws about to be introduced and not just the current laws).

    2jz in 260z?

G'Day all, I've been lurking around for about a week on this and other forums as I bought a '73 240Z a fortnight ago and am in the learning stage but thought I'd comment on this having just spoken to an engineer a week ago. Keep in mind I'm in Sydney so my comments may not matc VIC laws but it should be fiarly close if not the same. NSW is strict on allowed capacity and it's about to become stricter. The old 350 V8 swap hasn't been allowed for a while and under current regs you can go up to a 4.9l capacity. However under the regs about to be introduced that'll be reduced to 4.1. This is for NA, not forced induction BTW and based upon the offical RTA weight of 1041kg for a 240Z. I don't know if these are the long rumoured national guidlines being introduced, it didn't occur to me at the time to ask. On the subject of aftermarket ECU qik_shift is correct in that if it's a pre '76 vehicle they don't particular care, even with a new engine swapped in. In NSW there's no pollution check, even for the blue slip inspection so you can run aftermarket ECU without any hassles however all original emissions gear must be on the engine and correctly connected. So there's my quick 2c worth although I will add why bother with the Toyota motor when an RB is an easier swap, I'm sure I saw a mounting kit available for the RB series. Anyway, love the site, I'm learning lots about Z cars. Now, back to lurking.
