Hey gav, I had reco 240z carbs and extractors put on 6 months ago at the zshop together with electronic ignition, don't know if this helps. I will try a compression test ASAP I know a mobile mechanic who does this.

Hi gav, Not sure exactly what I need? I can do just about anything to the body of a car but engines leave me a little stumped. when i purchased this car about 8 months ago i just felt the motor was tired. I read lots of posts about how much grunt the zed's have....mine seems to have little down low with a fair bit at the top end. I don't know if that could be related to diff or transmission? I just guessed that the motor has seen a lot of work! any ideas from all that info? :shock:

Gidday mayhem, Just saw your post. My son and I have 3 zed's, 1 on the road 2 on the go. I am real intersted in getting more happening on this side of town as 2 mates have also now bought Zed's. I'm in Berwick so not far from you, let me know if you want to get together for a chat or a cruise sometime.

Hi Guys, I have finally got a few bucks together! Could anyone recommend someone who does engine rebuilding that is trustworthy. I would hope to find someone who has experience and could advise me how to rebuild to get as much as possible out of my L26 motor, is my thinking correct that 2K should get me well on the way?

my little red light on my amp meter has started appearing and staying on and yet the guage still says it is charging over 12 volts! could my alternator be a bit stuffed or just a guage proble, any help would be appreciated.

Gav, I agree with the Maccas thing! ever since watching Supa Size me the movie I've had a problem even getting my car to go through the drive thu! BUT as a confessed Coke man (the drink!) I kinda like my coke in an insulated cup holder than precariously balanced beteen my legs. Would be glad to have a go with your busted console and see what marvel I can come up with.

Hey guys I have been playing around with resin and fiberglass repair systems and think I've come pretty close to formulating a great system to repair centre consoles and other plastic interior parts, I will post some pics shortly of one that I have just finished for a 260z. I am after a trashed or semi trashed console to do some more design work (installing integrated cup holders and armrest etc) so if anyone has one for a low cost I'd be interested. From what I've worked out I should be able to do a full repair of cracked out chipped and generally stuffed consoles for betwwen $80-120 bucks, I'll keep everyone posted! cheers.

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it. I think my problem is with my auto box it seems to have to warm up before it gives me a faster take off, I don't know if that's what others with an auto find?

Hi guys, As an owner of a 76 260z i am wondering if the noise my auto is making is kinda standard! when I take off it gives a slightly high pitched whine that subsides as you pick up speed, maybe it's just age? Also does anyone know how I can get a little more grunt at take off, it seems just a little slow off the mark. I have just had reco 240z carbs, new manifold, extractors and electronic ignition installed and it is now running pretty sweet, I am becoming a passionate zed driver, even my 16 Year Old Son is getting interested! Hope someone can help, I live in the Narre warren south area and would be happy for any of you guys to come buy and take a listen....any ideas?

Thanks guys for your input. What carbs are you guys running? i spoke to a z mechanic this arvo who said the 240z (i think he said Bosch) carbs are the best because they are so simple? it's a little confusing to know what to do and which 'professional mechanic' to believe.

Hoping someone may be able to give me the heads up with the seeming carby problems I have. i just purchased my Z and it was running pretty sweet, stock carby's etc. Took it to a 'professional' who told me that the original carby's are crap and that i need to change them. he done a 'tune' and the car since then has been losing power, cutting out, and when it's hot it won't start at all! It has tarnished my enthusiasm just a little as I fell in love with my Zed and i feel that someone has tampered with her! Can someone help as this is my daily driver for now. thanks. P.S i have just purchased a second hand L26 motor which has 2 SU carbs all that i know is that their stamped Birmingham england are these any better?

Thanks for the quick reply, I guess this may be a good place to start, It kinda gets louder when you get it up to 60kph or so, would you or anyone else suggest the best place to get wheel bearing for a z/ thanks again

Hi, As a recent first purchaser of a 260z 2+2 my knowledge is still a little limited! However i'm wondering if anybody can help with this small problem. When i am accelerating i can hear a rumbling noise that seems to be either coming from under the dash or under the car, it is not there when I am stationary and tends to quiten when I decelerate. Has anybody had anything like this? could it be the speedo? I took it to a mechanic and he just gave me a blank stare!
