  2. Battery is one year old (not even) and RACV checked the fluid etc in it and said the battery was fine. I havent actually checked myself but i might do that. Lambs, how do i see if the regulator is any good?
  3. Some of you may remember a bit over a month ago my alternator was stuffed and wasnt charging my battery. I changed the alternator and had it checked out to make sure it was charging the battery and sure enough he assured me the problem was fixed. Today my car died again and i got the RACV out again to check out my car and once again my battery isnt charging because of the alternator. I have to wait till the morning to speak to a mechanic but can anyone think of any reasons as to why 2 alternators would die over the space of about one month? Surely there is something that is killing it. Cheers
  4. I have drained the oil from the engine and the brake fluid (need to do petrol soon) but i dont know what to do with these chemicals now. they are currently in containers. does anyone know where i can dispose of these? eg a tip or something thanks current progress everything out except wheels, suspension, brake lines, diff, petrol tank nearly ready to start sanding
  5. Changed alternators on car and seems to be running fine....i will definatly be there however cant stay late as i got a 21st to head off to

  7. I am pretty sure i can make it... just have to wait and see if i have a running car or not. In a rush to make the train yesterday i left my lights on and killed my battery. After waiting 50mins for RACV to arrive he told my my alternator isnt charging properly (or maybe it was generator). Now again my car wont start which i think is because of the battery (so it is currently charging). If i have a working car i will be there. The other car....well if this had of been the other week i could have had 2 cars there for a photo shoot but i only just started ripping everything out and it is no longer driveable. Will keep posted as to my presence
  8. Driving in the rain sucks...thats all there is too it, i cant see a single thing out my back window when it rains and it is rather annoying...i actually had my friend jump out of the car and make sure i didnt hit anything once when i was reversing out of a spot at a little tiny train station car park...he wasnt impressed Poll Q Rear windscreen washer, would anyone install one or is it to tacky? Note this isnt a car that is trying to be restored to factuary standards or anything (1976 Datsun 260z 2+2)
  9. greetings all i'm looking at purchasing an engine lift however cannot find how heavy the engine actually is to work out what capacity lift to get! Found a 1250kg capacity lift at Super Cheap Auto for $299. Will this be enough and is this a decent price or can someone refer me to somewhere else that may be cheaper? I tried Repco as well and the guy said they were like $600 for a 1250kg lift and over $1g for anything heavier then that thanks Chris
  10. i have eventually come upon some linkages :) i actually bought myself another zed so when i take my first one apart i will still have an awesome car to drive in. im going to take the linkages out of the new one and get them copied...in theory shouldnt be too hard and hopefully not very expensive :?
  11. hopefully its not too late to put my name in but i would love to attend...sorry about the late notice
  12. I have tried pick a part and they had a 240z amazingly but no supprise it had all the bits ripped out of it. thanx for the tip though...will get in contact with them soon
  13. Hi all, Im trying to source an accelerator linkage bar and a choke linkage bar for my 260z. Im putting the 240z twin carbies on it which i am told are the 'bees knees' for the carbies. Unfortunatly i am missing those 2 linkage rods and either want to purchase or get some prefabricated. If anyone has one to sell im interested otherwise i am hoping someone would be generous to let me see their set up sometime and be able to measure the rods so i can get one prefabricated. Also a little concerned that the mounting bracket has been moved to accomodate for existing carbie so definantly need to see one set up and compare. This is greatly appreciated Chris
  14. JP, my 260z came with a holley on it and believe me getting rid of it was the best thing i could have possibly done for the car...i was having so much trouble with getting it tuned (spent $$$ on gettin it tuned only to have it the slightest bit better then when i started)...it went on to have problems were it would be very jerky in 2nd gear because it was burning the fuel too quickly which also lead to shit milage out of a 50L tank of petrol fortunatly i got the twin su's wif my car as well so i juz needed to buy a kit and install myself definatly get rid of the holley, if you havent already
  15. Also does anyone know of any good books that have some form of a guide as to how to fix up a 260z??? i have the service manual but i have seen a book by someone that is actually about restoring the car but dont remember where i saw it
  16. Hi all I am hoping to take my 260z 2 + 2 off the road and strip it and fix it up. Needs a fair bit of interior restoration, some rust needs fixing, new paint job etc etc etc Prior to doing this of course i was hoping to check out the odd fully working 260z 2 + 2 for some much needed inspiration and advice as to what it should come out like. I have wires hanging from my dash that i dont even have a clue what they should be connected to let alone what the other end goes to. I am in Mount Waverley and am hoping there are some people not too far away that i could meet up with and check out their 260z. If anyone willing to help me out please post here with contact details and location so i can try organise a visit. Also hoping to get to the run on the 30th september in a hope of checking out the odd car then. Thanks heaps
  17. I am the recent purchaser of a 1975 datsun 260z 2+2 and need some help/advice regarding cold starts. Every time i start her in the morning i have to rev the engine for about 5mins trying to get the revs and temperature up...im wasting a lot of petrol doing this and as we all know petrol aint cheap these days. Even if i leave my car off for an hour i need to rev it a bit to get the revs and temperature back up. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have a holy carby installed instead of the twin su's which seems to eliminate the need for a choke as i seem to flood it every time i use the choke even the slightest (mechanic told me i probably dont need the choke because of the holy) any advice will be greatly appreciated
