I am doing up an early 240Z, 1970, and was wondering if anybody knows about the different diff locations between the early and later 240Z's? My understanding is that the diff was orginally to far foward and put a lot of pressure on the drive shafts and they changed it on the later ones to square the shafts up. My question is, is there an easy way to tell if the conversion to the later set up has been done with out the diff or half shafts in?? (eg. drive shaft lengths??) I've just removed, sand blasted and painted my rear suspension and was hoping to check this before I refit it all.

Thanks

The modification was in 1972 where they moved the rear cross member and diff mountings  35mm to the rear such that the drive shafts were at 90 degrees to the prop shaft and the prop shaft was lengthened to suit.

I guess if the car was modified then you should be able to see 2 sets of mounting points for the rear cross member and diff mounts

Does this photo answer my question? I'd say the plate is covering the old holes? what do you think? My prop shaft measures 74.8cm how does that compare to the pre 72 cars? Thanks.
