nicko Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 hey new to the web site i just got my first 260z 76 model its running bad as it dosent idle and has no go it feels like its rich on fuel blows bit of smoke and will not rev more than 4000rpm in gear so i was thinking about going injected will a 240z injection kit work if not what would i need to make it work http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-Nissan-L24E-L24-L26-L28E-Fuel-injection-conversion-complete-/140742106559?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20c4e21dbf Quote
neRok Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 probably need an electronic dizzy for the ecu to control and/or have timing signal, and a high pressure efi fuel pump, rather than the low pressure carb pump you probably have now. Quote
dat2kman Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Put a Wanted ad on here, or, go to a few wreckets, cheaper to buy a whole car, a280zx manual, you need the injection manifold with all wiring/loom, the AFM and hoses, the fuel pump, the ecu, it is behind passenger side kick panel. Dont cut any wiring/loom. The 280 zx injectors will prob be a touch rich at 188 cc's for the 2.6, you could come down approx 6 to 8 cc's. Oh but wait, why not just drop in the whole drivetrain from the ZX donor car,,,, DOH!! Bit more toque and power, in a lighter chassis. Win! Quote
nicko Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 so the conversion kit above is not a good idea i know ill need a fuel pump and the dizzy but what about wiring will the stock loom plug with the dash loom or will it need wiring Quote
maddos Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I went down the complete 280zx donor car path. Much easier as already stated because everything is there for you including the engine. Like the ebay ad says, your head also wont be suitable because it doesn't have the notches for the injectors. I used pretty much everything off the 280, ECU, loom, dizzy, manifold and fuel pump. They pop up every now and then rusted out beyond help going cheap. Either that or an old skyline or 280c. Wiring up isn't so difficult just have to pretty much find some switched power to supply ECU and fuel pump relay etc. One problem I ran into was with rego where they wouldn't pass it with a pod filter unenclosed. I ended up getting and airfilter box from the US from a 280z which makes it look like it all belongs. You probably still have the 260z carbies on it though and a swap to the 240 style is always a much easier option with good results. Good luck with it Quote
