Z Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 I've got my eye on a LD crank but just wanted to be sure - a LD crank is an LD crank is an LD crank? There are no differences are there? Any other things to look out for would be great fellas. Cheers, Case. Quote
peter mc Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 the casting number is VO on the LD crank and a L28 crank has 3040 cast in it Quote
Z Posted December 10, 2011 Author Posted December 10, 2011 Okay cheers Pete, it's a whole long motor being parted so I'm guessing it should be fine for a little strokin Quote
d3c0y Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 I thought your engine was already built? Quote
Z Posted December 21, 2011 Author Posted December 21, 2011 I wish mate, I still have the 2.6 wheezing all over the place! Just thinking about 3.1 but its so much more expensive! Quote
Ben Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 A quick note - be aware that the LD crank runs slightly smaller journals than the gasoline crank (0.005" more bearing clearance, from memory). So... you'll probably want to get it resized to 1st-under (petrol) specs. Quote
d3c0y Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 3.1 is so last week now - all the cool kids are going 3.2L Just need Peter MC to clear some of his work load so mine's not just a pile of parts :-\ How much was your ITB setup landed out of interest? I'm tossing up between 50mm extrduas and 50 Solexes. Quote
Z Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Thanks Ben, that is yet another little thing to consider with 3.1/3.2's, think I'll think about turbo or stroker again in the new year, too hard! The 44 Extrudabody ITB's were 2k and prob another 3 to 400 to land them here, Kevin is very good to deal with. Quote
d3c0y Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Hrrm looks like they might be a cheaper option than getting a set of 50mm Solexs over from japan which is crazy! Quote
Z Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Thats not a bad idea, specially as you have triples already don't you d3c0y? Quote
d3c0y Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Yeah i have Mikuni 44s but the trick is you need to get them taper bored (because they are tapered from the factory) which i dont think would be quite so straight forward. 6mm over bore is a pretty badass over-bore in something as sensitive as a carb too. 50s also come with different jet blocks and the fuel circuits are a bit different from what i've read (i have S5 Mikunis). To me boring them out doesnt sound like the way to go, especially if you can buy a carb in the right size and 44s arent even that much more than 40s. The more i look at it the better value those extruda ITBs are. You can get a 50/48mm taper which will flow the air i need and ultimately make more power and be more drivable with the spastic cam. I reckon I will probably end up getting those, run them on a Kameari manifold with GTR top feed injectors. I already have a serge tank so its just a matter of new fuel lines, a VL turbo pump and see what ECU i can get cheap. At $1400 i will have $2k to buy the ecu, pump and fittings with and that will be only just a set of 50mm Solexes, which will have to be cleaned, kitted and jetted. I think i just talked myself into it lol. Quote
