L28 rat Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Hey lads I scored a set of twin carbs of galderdi (Greg, again thanks bud) Im in the process of cleaning it all up Ive scrubbed em down with degreaser and a toothbrush But the dirty oily marks in the alloy , AARRGH Ive heard molasses is good paint stripper ,cleaner, but on alloy Mate mentioned bicarb of soda What do you guys use Also what about polishing them Quote
benny Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I blast all my manifolds/alloy bits with bicarb or if its really stuck i use Garnet!! If you have a compressor You can grab a cheap $50 dollar gun from Supercheap otherwise pay someone else to do it!! Quote
zzzzed Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 this stuff works very well. http://www.chemtech.net.au/wn_chemtech1l.html Quote
Scoota G Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I used the $50 supercheap gun like benny suggested and the bicarb works a treat on alloy, sand is just to harsh on soft metal. Quote
L28 rat Posted July 3, 2011 Author Posted July 3, 2011 mag wheel cleaner works a treat I thought the wet n dry trick with autosol mite do But the ruff cast finish is harder to clean than the machined edge of a wheel Quote
peter mc Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 the stuff i have sprays on and you leave it on for 5 minutes and you wash it off with water, its very strong i use it on heads and sumps and front covers and they come out like new ,if its really bad i soda blast it . Quote
zzzzed Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 sounds like the same stuf i use?? Is it pink bvy any chance?? Quote
peter mc Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 yes it is pink i think its chemtec good stuff will check tomorrow when i go to work Quote

L28 rat Posted July 24, 2011 Author Posted July 24, 2011 Just throw this in here perhaps for future reference Dont use molasses There wont be any manifold left No i didnt do that, phew Quote
. Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Just throw this in here perhaps for future reference Dont use molasses There wont be any manifold left No i didnt do that, phew Sweet! I wonder if you push some molasses through the ports if it would be a good way to open them up a bit. (I am thinking more about an EFI manifold) Quote
PZG302 Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Greg, there is some goop that is designed to do just that, Jason has done it for his inlet manifold to even up the flow between runners and also open it up a little. Quote

Thanks for the info. I probably will never get around to it. I have way too many experiments already. Plus I am now going down the ITB path so the injection plenums aren't a priority for me any more....although I guess I'll still have one on my 280zx Quote
