peter mc Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Don't worry every race team in the world does, the lighter the rotating assembly the better your lap times are. Super light weight cranks have been banned in touring car racing as there cost was running away with teams trying to make them strong and light, so don't worry about making the fly wheel lighter its all good!!! luvemfast Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 My understanding, as explained by Neil Cartledge. Here is the dumbed down version. Is that you can lighten the flywheel without affecting the drivability too much, IF you add a good harmonic balancer also. It does 2 things. Improves the harmonics, obviously. But also adds some rotating mass to the crank to aid the weight reduction to the flywheel. I'm officially the Forrest Gump of the forum when it comes to simplifying tech stuff. "Life is like a crank without a good balancer and a girdle....... You never know when its gunna break" Quote
L28 rat Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 don't mean to be a ass but some of the tec BS hear makes me giggle as any one can read a tex book and have a go .there are people that do and people that read about the people that do it... nuf said.
