Happy new year to all!

I am thinking of building my own exhaust sytem for the v8.

Wondering if anyone knows where i can get the bits i need to do it, e.g flanges, bends, collectors, mufflers, and crosspipes etc.

Looking also for a book or something on how to start and go about building custom headers?

Cheers

hey there Grae.... Happy new year to you too!

The best bet and most likely cheapest option would be to but the bits you need straight from an exhaust shop, I have generally found for bits that Daalder are the cheapest. I know repco do carry some of the flanges and small bits, but most other things will more than likeily mean a trip to somewhere else.

Happy new year to u too.

Ive been making my own exhausts for a while now. though i can only give u a tip where too look but u have to find it in melbourne as im in adelaide so kinda defeats the purpose.

i found that in adelaide the chepeast and best place was diesel exhaust place or truck exhaust place, u got everything under the sun there. flanges mandrel bent pipes from 1.5" to massive 6" also can get bits and pieces to make ur custom mufflers. mild steel to heavy duty stainless stuff. and prices were a lot cheaper than any exhaust place around here.

also they have rubber for intercooler pipes and heavy duty clamps and i mean heavy for same price as the cheap supercheap auto ones or bunnings.

im sure melbourne has few of these around.

if helps the name is Diesel Exhaust they may have a branch in vic.

if i go past next day or so ill pop in and ask if they have a branch there.

Try Performance Exhaust in Ringwood (I know it's not next door to Langwarren, but the owner is a car nut & has all the mandrel bending equipement).

Thanks for the help guys, i am not sure if my mig skills are up to a set of headers so am looking around and getting quotes also.

A twin system on my zed with a large gas tank out the back makes it pretty tight for two mufflers out the back.

Its going to be a tricky job.

buy yourself a pair of good headers (block huggers are working for me 283sbc) and get your generic type (cheap) exhaust shop to finish it off, with your supplied mufflers/resi's if you wish or get them to supply.

if you do go stainless make sure you find a place that will have all the appropriate SS fitting, flanges etc.

i can/have profile cutting ability @ work and id buy SS headers for only $299 pr, just not worth the effort.

but still on my list to do.

nato, i have block huggers on but they slightly foul on the steering arm, just dont like the way they fit. i wouls like to go closer to the engine and away from the steering arm.

You just gave me an idea.

i may be able to leave my block huggers on for the mean time and just set my two mufflers uf at the rear.

Anyone else with a v8 running a twin ststem with twin mufflers? [craig perhaps].
