53-681 Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Hey guyz, As the title may suggest, I have purchased a new Zed. The thing is, it has not hit the road in a loooong time, no reg, etc. Now I purchased this privately from a person who had listed it on ebay; I forgot to ask for a receipt. What is involved in getting this car registered successfully in Vic? Much help would be very appreciated. Thanx, Sam Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 29, 2011 Moderators Posted January 29, 2011 You will need a receipt, and as long as it has its VIN number on the firewall and compliance plate and ID plate, it should be ok. Some early 240's never had a compliance plate fitted like mine but I've never had an issue at Vicroads. And bring lots of cash. Quote
PZG302 Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 If you don't have receipt a stat dec signed by a JP should suffice. The stat dec should detail the car, who you purchased from, the date and the amount you paid. The interweb will be your friend, the dept transport site should have an example of what is required. I needed to do this to register my MX5 in Qld after purchase in NSW and didn't have a receipt, or rego papers. Quote
Scottz Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Hi 53-681, Did you buy the car in Vic or another state? I live in Qld and purchased a car from NSW. The seller wasn't experienced with private sell / buy rules. I typed up a statutory declaration (stat dec) for him, which he signed. When I registered it in Qld I paid duty (2% of sale price or market value), and had to get a Qld RWC, however an interstate vehicle inspection certificate is accepted as equivalent. Don't know if that applies in all states though? If you paid more than market value, don't mention it. Go with the lower figure. All states require a road worthy certificate (vehicle inspection) when registering a car or transfering registration. If you purchased for less than market value, good for you, and put that amount on the stat dec. Each state has its own pricing system for the inspection fee and registration fee. Check your DOT / Vic roads website. Yeah - like Zedman says, it costs $$$ for full rego. So I did the special interest rego, which is a lot cheaper. Applicable for cars over 30 years old. But you have to go through a few hoops to get that done properly, and it has restrictions / rules. If you cannot get a stat dec from the seller, then like PZG said, make your own stat dec with a Justice of the Peace (JP) as witness. You can find your closest JP by looking in the phone book. There is a help number which will give you a contact for your closest JP. Their service is free. There are slight variations state to state for rego process and costs. Do your research via the internet (down load documents) and phone calls first. Avoid the office until you're ready, it is usually a waste of time if you just front up cold. Like all negotiations, the result is better if you have more information than the person you are dealing with. Good Luck. Quote
53-681 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Yeah, its gonna cost a lot of $$$. What should I be wary of when taking it to get RWC? Also, I have just received a copy of the receipt from the seller last night He emailed it as an attachment. Quote
