Well I haven't had much time lately to play with my zed, but I have been fiddling with the rear brakes and handbrake, which won't hold. Initially the handbrake lever would come all the way up before getting any resistance - I've since adjusted the brake shoes, and it now seems to engage about 3/4 of the way up. With the back of the car jacked, I can't turn the rear wheels like this. However, the handbrake doesn't hold the car on my sloped driveway.

The rod under the car that attaches to the lever is at full adjustment, so I think i'm looking at a new cable (but this looks like a bugger of a job). Is there anything else that can reduce handbrake effectiveness? I've installed new drums and shoes, and I think I've bled the lines properly (not that this should matter for the handbrake?). Anything else?

Option 1. If they are new shoes, they might not be mating up to the drum surface properly. Take a drum off and check if 100% of the shoe is wearing.

Option 2. Install discs :P
