Brabham Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Started off doing my small removable panels first, among these was the headlight cones. This is after it has been finished and sprayed. The final color will change slightly when I do the whole car to #305 Light Blue Metallic, this was some light blue my mate had left over. Enjoy. Quote
Brabham Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 Finally got the pictures to work! Did a fair bit of prep work on this cone, it looked good on the car when I bought it and was in primer so I thought "this will be pretty easy". However when I looked at it more closely it had nikki in it and a couple of rust holes in it. I welded in a couple of patches with an oxy and got it bead blasted and epoxy primed. After that filled and sanded repeatedly down to 600 wet or dry. This is not quite the right color and I will get the correct color once I have bolted the car together and spray it as a whole. However I am pretty stoked with how it came out, I have had some help from a friend but I did a fair bit of sanding and a bit of spraying myself, should look awesome once finished! Cheers guys. Quote
Brabham Posted January 10, 2011 Author Posted January 10, 2011 I have now started work on the front undertray and drivers side guard. The front undertray has copped a lot of hits in its life. It had a few cracks and bends in it. The cracks were welded up, it was straightened out as far as possible then sent to the bead blasters for cleaning up and a coat of epoxy black paint. You can see how bent it still was from the amount of Niki in it. This has yet to be sanded but should not exceed more than 4mm at any point. Stay tuned for the awesome jig my mate made up for blocking this panel so it does not flex too much! Quote
PeterAllen Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Sir Jack - Come and join us at the 'Vehicle Restoration' course at TAFE and you will get that 4mm of bog down to 0.4mm. http://www.sit.nsw.edu.au/courses/search.php?cid=16047&area=courses&Media_Index_ID=169 Quote
Brabham Posted January 12, 2011 Author Posted January 12, 2011 Would like to Peter but St.George is a bit tricky for me to get to after work. I might look into something closer to me. Cheers. Quote
Brabham Posted May 27, 2011 Author Posted May 27, 2011 Time for an update. Have now finished the front apron and the front guard is getting closer to being finished. I am happy with the way the front apron came out, it looks fantastic considering the amount of hits it had acquired in its life. Not an excessive amount of Nikki in it either. That is all the small panels done, I am now onto the big stuff. ;D Quote
Brabham Posted April 30, 2012 Author Posted April 30, 2012 Finished my RHF guard at last and in its final color. Color is Datsun #305 Light Blue Metallic. It looks beautiful. I think I am going to hang it up on the wall, so much better than a painting Now for LHF guard which had the same problems as this one. Enjoy. Quote
