Scoota G Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I went and checked out a Leyland Powered V8 for mrp69, from memory he was converting to an LS1. Might be good to check out his posts! Quote
chev z Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 My LS1 + 6speed implant is nearing completion, roll cage..guard flaring [a big job ]..even weight distribution i.e. balancing 240z corners ..and cosmetic stuff. Things are/were going slow but steady slight hiccups[ read problems] like rear hump sump mods, large fuel delivery pump and surge tank ,increasing chassis rail strength [ to help counter power twisting ], cut rail [slightly ]so steering can function with clearance and setting up computer etc The final tune before testing resulted in a mishap, the car jumped of the dyno causing slight damage to the bonnet ,bumper and spoiler when it hit the fan.Shit happens . On the positive side the engine produces 412hp and somewhere in the region of 330 rwhp I'm told. 160 kph in 4th, 220 kph in 5th and the mechanic reckons I shouldn't need 6th. Being an old man I mightn't need 5th good luck with your conversion Quote
zed240au Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 had my ls1 running for 18 months or so now though had set back in feb engine hand grenaded on first run around symons plains got 4 laps in lol found installation pretty straight forward its the little things that are annoying to figure out happy to help u in anyway i can with info great motor slipped cam into my new motor power is just brutal told to expect 300 rear wheel kws from it now thats over 500 hp at flywheel i used johns cars install kit, camaro sump , jtr header on left hand side made my own for right hand side which allowed me to keep steering std, made my own gearbox crossmember, had guy in melbourne modify loom for me so just 6 wires to connect, mounted cumputer under dash as for other mods would recomend hilux 4 spot caliper upgrade plus good suspension package and widest tyres u can fit un car lol my sticky 235s are struggling big time mick Quote
red76z Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 This is just what I am looking 4 a bit of how to knowledge and places to find the stuff. Will keep u up to date on project. I can see it is going to be plenty of time and fun. My first build was when i was a teen and this will be my midlife crises build. Quote
zed240au Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 well my first build with zed was when i was 20 taken another 24 years and still tweaking it lol what part of tassie u from red76z got Quote
chev z Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 How ya going Mick , as you can see I haven't finished the ls1 install yet but getting close. We only upgraded motor with slightly better cam and changed the alternator pulley so it wouldn't rev as hard when racing .I was told they don't last [ alt. ] at higher revs . The biggest trouble we've had was the s13 rear end conversion ,that was supposed to be fully engineered , was incorrectly positioned.Hence coilovers hit on the upper rear camber arm, I have purchased after market one- sided [ shaped like a C] ones, they will be fitted this week. Hopefully this will eliminate any fouling. Mick it might be helpful to pass on the information you sent me to red76z. It gets you thinking and looking out for those build problems.....steve Quote
RB30X Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 As mentioned above ls1's are a great engine and 330 hp or 250kw is right on the money for power at the wheels with as little as a mafless tune and some headers. You would have to spend a fair amount of coin to get that power from say a five litre or even some turbo sixes. Quote
red76z Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 well my first build with zed was when i was 20 taken another 24 years and still tweaking it lol what part of tassie u from red76z got Hobart would love to catch up and have a chat about the mods and pick your brain 4 ideas. regards Scott Quote
Cable Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Hey guys, I own a shop that does LSx swaps into various cars/trucks (including S30's) and would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the conversion process to the performance aspect. Cheers!! Quote
